This week saw a trio of running backs who didn't perform up to expectations. Let's take a closer look at their performances, and what it means for your fantasy team. Hopefully they didn't kill your chances of winning in the playoffs.
New York Jets running back Chris Ivory had an extremely lackluster performance in Saturday's win over the Dallas Cowboys. After rushing for over 100 yards in last week's game against the Titans, Ivory mustered up 37 yards on 13 rushes on Saturday. The Jets adapted to Dallas's weak pass defense by allowing quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to air the ball out 39 times, thus limiting Ivory's carries. Ivory has been very inconsistent as of recent, making him a RB2 at best.
After having his best game of the season last week against the Dallas Cowboys, Eddie Lacy's fantasy stock came crashing down on Sunday with his performance on Sunday. Lacy rushed the ball just 11 times for 23 yards in a win over the Oakland Raiders. Lacy's performance this season has been maddening for many fantasy owners, who likely drafted him in the first round of their respective drafts. We can't promote Lacy as anything more than a borderline RB2 at this point, especially with his inconsistent performances.
Miami Dolphins running back Lamar Miller has played very well since Joe Philbin was relieved of his head coaching duties earlier this year. With that being said, Sunday's performance against the San Diego Chargers was disappointing for many fantasy owners who were counting on him to help take them to the promised land.
Miller had just 12 rushing yards on nine carries (he had only two rushes for one yard in the second half), and added 12 receiving yards though the air on two receptions. The way the Dolphins have used Lamar Miller throughout his career has been a mystery, especially because he has shown flashes of ability out of he backfield as both a runner and pass-catcher. Despite the week's lackluster performance, there aren't many better FLEX plays than Miller. His ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and run the ball can win you matchups in fantasy, especially in PPR leagues.
