Fantasy Hockey Sleepers: NHL Waiver Wire Defense and Goaltenders for 12/07/15

Welcome to the new Daily Fantasy Hockey weekly waiver wire report. Each week I will be updating some of the players we should targeting on the waiver wire to help us build a championship fantasy hockey team. The recommendations will focus on, for the most part, standard Yahoo Hockey leagues with the following stat categories:

  1. Goals
  2. Assists
  3. Powerplay Points
  4. Short Handed Points
  5. +/- Rating
  6. Shots on Goal
  7. Hits
  8. Faceoffs Won
  9. Goalie Wins
  10. Saves
  11. Save %
  12. Goals Against Average
  13. Shutouts

Only players who are under 50% owned in Yahoo Fantasy Hockey will be considered for the waiver wire report. If you have specific questions about how a player fits your league settings please hit me up on Twitter(@Jager_Bombs9)

Let us now take a look at this week's low owned waiver wire options:

Fantasy Hockey Sleepers and Waiver Wire Pickups at Defense and Goaltender

Defense

Shayne Gostisbehere (PHI, D)  30% Owned

His ownership is increasing by the day but still remains well under 50% going into this week. He now has four goals and four assists with five of those eight points coming on the powerplay. He has also provided a surprising +2 rating for a rookie D man on a team struggling on the defensive end. This is a good sign he is acclimating into the NHL quite nicely.

Jacob Trouba (WPG, D) 40% Owned

A great defense add for any type of league as he checks so many boxes. In the last two weeks he has picked up four points, 14 shots on goal, 13 hits, and 16 blocks. The scoring is something that comes and goes with most D men but the secondary stats provide your team with a great floor of weekly stats. This could be the last week is he is below 50% owned in Yahoo leagues.

Jonathan Ericsson (DET, D) 1% Owned

If you are playing in a deep league(12+ teams) and desperately looking for D help, Ericsson makes a great choice. He has picked up four points in his last five games and added a +5 rating. He will also help in the shot column as he has averages around two shots a game in those previous five games.

Also Available - Cam Fowler (ANH, G) 42% Owned

Goaltenders

Connor Hellebuyck (WPG, G) 24% Owned

He has been incredible in his first three starts of his NHL career. He won his first game against the Wild and wasn't really tested with only 15 shots against. He then beat the Leafs stopping 32 of 33 shots on goal and followed that up with his most impressive win beating the high powered Capitals 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Finding goaltenders in 10+ man leagues can be difficult so if he is still available run to your waivers and pick him up.

John Gibson (ANH, G) 43% Owned

Since taking over as the Ducks starter seven games ago, he has gone 4-2-1 with a .944 save percentage. He has wins in three of his last four games and is coming off wins vs. the Penguins and Sharks. Frederik Ansderson is starting to get healthy but it will be hard for the coach to put Gibson back on the bench when he is playing this well. His ownership has been rising by the hour so rush out and get him before he is gone.

Also Available - Thomas Greiss (NYI, G) 25% Owned
