Garrett Wilson Injury Update
New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson (ankle) was expected to return on Saturday, but the team decided to take the cautious approach. The second-year wideout suffered an ankle sprain in late July. Wilson hasn't been able to participate in team activities since then.
The good news is, Wilson is supposed to return on a limited basis on Tuesday. After that, Wilson should be fine for joint practices with the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday and Thursday. It's uncertain if Wilson is going to suit up for the Jets second preseason contest next weekend.
Cooper Kupp Injury Update
Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur considers wide receiver Cooper Kupp (hamstring) as day-to-day after he tweaked his hamstring in training camp practice this week. "He'll be back in the right time and stuff like that. So he is just going through the rehab process, but he's day-to-day. He'll be alright," LaFleur said. The 30-year-old could miss up to several weeks as they play it safe with their No. 1 receiver by a wide margin, especially since his 2022 campaign ended prematurely due to an ankle injury.
Kupp will still be a target hog worthy of a top-five pick at wideout in fantasy drafts with quarterback Matthew Stafford locking in on him, but this injury is another reminder that Kupp has become a bit more volatile with an early-round selection. We will continue to keep a close eye on his status throughout camp and the preseason.
Kadarius Toney Injury Update
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee), who tore his meniscus in the opening practice of training camp and required surgery, is expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season against the Detroit Lions. Toney hasn't returned to practice, but the Chiefs remain hopeful that he can be their leading receiver in 2023 after they acquired him from the Giants at midseason last year.
There remains no timetable for the 24-year-old to get back on the field at camp, but it should be soon if he's going to be ready for Week 1. Toney has shown glimpses of his upside since being a first-round pick in 2021, but injuries have held him back so far. He'll be a risk/reward WR4/5 late in fantasy drafts this fall. (ESPN.com)
Rashod Bateman Injury Update
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said on Friday that wide receiver Rashod Bateman (foot) has a "chance to be out there pretty soon" at training camp. However, Harbaugh declined to give a timetable. Bateman began camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list and still hasn't practiced with the team. His injury, combined with the additions of rookie first-rounder Zay Flowers and veteran Odell Beckham Jr., have caused Bateman's fantasy value to slip considerably as we head into the 2023 regular season.
As long as the 23-year-old is able to get back on the field soon, he should have plenty of time to get up to speed for Week 1, but regardless, he's going to have more competition for targets in a Ravens passing game that is finally looking to make improvement this year.
Rashid Shaheed and Tre'Quan Smith Injury Update
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed (groin) didn't practice at training camp on Monday and is expected to miss a few weeks, according to a source. Shaheed should still be ready to go for Week 1 of the regular season, but he could miss all of preseason action. When healthy, he's expected to be the team's starting slot receiver after posting 33 catches for 484 yards and two touchdowns in 2022. Tre'Quan Smith is also battling a groin injury at camp, so the Saints are short some receivers this week.
Shaheed should be able to put up better numbers in his sophomore campaign with quarterback Derek Carr running the offense, even if Michael Thomas stays healthy. However, Shaheed is most likely going to go undrafted in standard 12-team fantasy leagues this fall.
Denzel Mims Injury Update
Detroit Lions wide receiver Denzel Mims (ankle) suffered an ankle injury during training camp practice over the weekend. Mims was seen limping after taking a hard hit from safety Tracy Walker. Until we know more about the injury, Mims should be considered day-to-day, and he could be forced to sit out the team's preseason opener on Aug. 11 against the New York Giants.
The 25-year-old former second-round pick was a bust for the New York Jets in three seasons and was traded to the Lions this offseason to serve as additional receiver depth. He should be left to the waiver wire in most fantasy leagues to begin the 2023 season, as he'll be playing behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds and Marvin Jones Jr. (DetroitNews.com)
