Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups - Ameer Abdullah, Trey Benson, Keon Coleman Outlooks (Week 13)

Ameer Abdullah - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire

We're creeping closer to the playoffs, and as injuries mount for many fantasy teams, it's more important than ever to scrape up whatever you can of what's left on the waiver wire. There isn't much left, but injuries can always lead to some players getting bigger roles.

That's what's happened in a few cases. But it's important to remember that players can have nice strings of games after relatively unremarkable seasons. It's tough to predict this, but it's not impossible. But picking up the right guys can lead to huge rewards.

Let's dive into three potential waiver wire targets and see which are worth picking up ahead of Week 13 of 2024.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2024:

Ameer Abdullah Waiver Wire Outlook for Fantasy Football

Rostered in 33% of leagues

Abdullah had a nice game in Week 12, especially in PPR leagues. That doesn't mean he has much value. He's a 31-year-old back who did well because the team's lead back, Alexander Mattison (ankle) and backup RB Zamir White (quad) were both out of the game with injuries.

He also had six targets and got in the end zone again, which helped. This is a team that doesn't score touchdowns often (they're 29th in the league in TDs per game), so there isn't much to go around.

If you have Mattison, maybe you can pick up Abdullah as a handcuff. If you think the team's top-2 backs will be out for an extended time, he's a worthy option as well. But it's hard to see him sustaining production when the other guys are healthy again. And that seems to be sooner rather than later.

In leagues with 12 or more teams, most rosters should have room. He's a nice emergency starter in PPR in Week 13 if both of the guys ahead of him on the depth chart can't play again. But he'll face the best run defense in the league in the Kansas City Chiefs, so you're purely banking on points from receptions and a potential lucky TD.

Trey Benson Waiver Wire Outlook for Fantasy Football

Rostered in 35% of leagues

After he carried the ball 10 times for 62 yards in Week 11, it seemed like he could step into a bigger role in the offense. That didn't happen in Week 12. He had just four carries for 18 yards. His snap percentage was nearly the same as it was in Week 11 as well, 27% vs 28%.

He's doing well in his role, but that's not encouraging for fantasy football. His role is to be the backup to lead back James Conner, who is a workhorse RB. That's not likely to change. Perhaps the Cardinals won't re-sign Conner to a new deal after this season, but that's something to worry about for 2025.

There's very little upside with Benson unless Conner gets hurt and can't play. The rookie will occasionally spell the vet and take care of a handful of carries per game, but it's hard to expect much more.

Add Only As Handcuff

Keon Coleman Waiver Wire Outlook for Fantasy Football

Rostered in 61% of leagues

Coleman (wrist) hasn't played since Week 9 due to a wrist injury. However, he's a great pickup. In competitive leagues, he's likely still rostered, but if you can snag him off waivers, you should probably do it. He's just had his bye week, affording him additional time to recover from his wound.

You typically want good players with good roles in good offenses. That's what the rookie is. It's sad that he got hurt right when he seemed to be hitting his stride, as he caught nine passes on 14 targets for 195 yards and a score in Weeks 7 and 8. He recorded 75% and 83% of snaps in those games.

His high snap percentage indicates that his coaches trust him to be on the field often, which leads to him running more routes. That sets him up to earn more targets, and that ultimately drives production. Pick him up if you can, and he's worth a nice chunk of FAAB or your waiver priority.
