Kyle Pitts Injury Update
Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts (hamstring) popped up on the injury report early in the week and has officially been ruled out for the Week 5 matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so fantasy managers will have to look for a streamer heading into the middle part of the fantasy season.
It's worth noting Parker Hesse and Anthony Firker will be the tight ends on the field in 12-personnel, but no Falcons' pass-catcher outside of Drake London is attractive in this matchup. With Pitts out, London could see a ton of volume in what is expected to be a negative game script.
T.J. Hockenson Injury Update
Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson (foot) was taken off the Week 5 injury report on Friday and will play on Sunday against the New England Patriots. With both running back D'Andre Swift (ankle, shoulder) and D.J. Chark (ankle) out, he could be in for another big day in a favorable matchup.
Wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and Josh Reynolds (ankle) are questionable so there's a chance Hockenson could dominate targets like we rarely see from a tight end. Needless to say, he's a must-start in Week 5.
Dawson Knox Injury Update
Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox did not practice all week leading up to the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and has officially been ruled out for Week 5. Knox hasn't delivered thus far this season, so chances are most fantasy managers have found a replacement for him. Week 5 will be no different.
In his absence, Isaiah McKenzie and Gabe David could see more targets, but their fantasy outlooks aren't changed much. Rookie tight end Quintin Morris could be a sneaky DFS play, but he's not an attractive option in traditional fantasy leagues.
Hayden Hurst Injury Update
Cincinnati Bengals tight end Hayden Hurst did not practice Friday and is officially questionable for the Sunday Night Football matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. Since the Ravens' secondary has been arguably the worst in the NFL, Hurst is a trendy streamer in Week 5, so his game status will be important at the scarce position that is tight end.
Even though Hurst is expected to play, there's a chance he could be a scratch just before kickoff. Since the game is on Sunday night, this is a tricky situation. If you have a strong streamer playing earlier in the day, he's the safer bet. The options are scarce if you keep Hurst in your lineup and he's ultimately ruled out just before kickoff. Those options would include Bengals tight end Mitchell Wilcox, Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely, or one of the backup tight ends from the Raiders-Chiefs matchup on Monday night.
