Hunter Henry Injury Update
New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry (knee) was unable to practice with the rest of the team on Wednesday. Henry had a good game in the Week 15 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs with 66 receiving yards and his third touchdown in the last two games on seven receptions (nine targets), but he also picked up a knee injury in Sunday's game that could put his status in question for the Christmas Eve game this Sunday evening against the Broncos in Denver.
The 29-year-old will need to practice by Friday in order to have a shot at playing this weekend. It's hard to trust any pass-catcher in New England's offense in 2023, but Henry has been a go-to option for quarterback Bailey Zappe the past two weeks. If he's unable to play, Mike Gesicki would be in line for more targets, although he wouldn't be recommended for starting in fantasy lineups.
Dalton Kincaid Injury Update
Buffalo Bills rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid (shoulder) was limited in practice yet again on Wednesday and was sporting a non-contact jersey. Kincaid played through his shoulder injury in the Week 15 win over the Dallas Cowboys but saw a season-low snap percentage and didn't catch either of his two targets in a game in which the Bills didn't really need to throw the ball much.
The 24-year-old's injury isn't very serious and shouldn't keep him from playing this Saturday against the Los Angeles Chargers, although he's fallen to more of a low-end TE1 in fantasy now that Dawson Knox is back in the fold. The matchup against the Bolts is a good one, but Kincaid is likely to be more volatile for fantasy managers to close what has been an impressive rookie season.
Pat Freiermuth Injury Update
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth (knee) was limited in practice on Tuesday but upgraded to a full session on Wednesday, putting him in line to play in Week 16 against the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday afternoon. He said he tweaked his knee on Tuesday, but it was a "false alarm." An MRI exam confirmed that the injury isn't serious, and his return to practice on Wednesday is a sign that he'll be available this weekend.
Outside of his nine-catch, 120-yard breakout in the first meeting with Cincy in Week 12, Freiermuth has been an underwhelming TE2 streamer for fantasy managers. The 25-year-old has only scored twice in nine games as well, and not since Week 3. It's nice that he's facing the Bengals again on Saturday, but it also remains to be seen what his chemistry will be like with quarterback Mason Rudolph, who is the expected starter. (Steelers.com)
Greg Dulcich Injury Update
Denver Broncos tight end Greg Dulcich (hamstring, foot), who was designated to return to practice last week while being on injured reserve, did not practice on Wednesday. Head coach Sean Payton said on Monday that Dulcich "had some swelling and soreness" in his foot, although the team still expects him to return this season. Dulcich is going to have to make progress quickly, though, with only three regular season games left.
It seems unlikely that he'll return to play in Week 16 on Christmas Eve versus the New England Patriots. The 23-year-old second-year tight end has played in only two games in 2023 and is not going to be a fantasy option the rest of the way. Incumbent starting tight end Adam Trautman isn't much to look at either as mostly a blocking-first tight end.
Tommy Tremble Injury Update
Carolina Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble (illness) is listed as a limited participant in Wednesday's practice as he deals with an illness. The Panthers have five players listed with illnesses on their initial Week 16 injury report. It's encouraging that Tremble was at least able to practice, but he remains off the fantasy radar.
Despite Hayden Hurst (concussion) missing the last few games, Tremble has hauled in just three passes for 34 yards over the last two weeks. Ultimately, the Carolina offense has been unproductive for fantasy football, so all of its pass-catchers have low floors and limited ceilings.
