T.J. Hockenson Injury Update
Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (ribs) injured his ribs in the Week 9 win over the Atlanta Falcons and was limited in the first official practice of the week on Wednesday. The Vikings are hopeful that Hockenson won't have to miss any time, starting with a Week 10 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, and the fact that he was limited in practice early in the week confirms that.
As long as he doesn't suffer any kind of setback with his ribs in the next two days, Hockenson should be expected to play this weekend. He caught seven of a season-high-tying 12 targets last Sunday for 69 yards and remains a set-and-forget TE1 in fantasy lineups when he's active. Now that quarterback Joshua Dobbs is the starter moving forward, it will be an upgrade over rookie Jaren Hall for the Vikings offense.
Dallas Goedert Injury Update
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert (forearm) underwent surgery on Monday after suffering a fractured right forearm in the Week 9 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. It's reminiscent of the injury he had last year when he missed five games, so he's a clear candidate to be placed on Injured Reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games.
The hope is that Goedert will be out around four weeks after undergoing surgery. It's a crushing blow for the Eagles and for fantasy managers, but with Goedert potentially returning just in time for the start of the fantasy players, he needs to be stashed in an IR spot in all leagues. In the meantime, the Eagles will probably roll with some combination of Jack Stoll and Albert Okwuegbunam, but neither of them will be guaranteed to be reliable fantasy streamers moving forward.
David Njoku Injury Update
Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku (knee) is not practicing with the team on Wednesday. It was an ankle injury that kept Njoku out of practice early last week, but he ultimately played in the Week 9 win over the Arizona Cardinals and caught four of six targets for 26 yards and had his second straight game with a touchdown. Nevertheless, the 27-year-old's status is worth watching this week with a new injury listed, but it's more likely that the Browns are just resting him ahead of a Week 10 date with the division-rival Baltimore Ravens.
Njoku should be able to play this Sunday as long as he returns to practice later this week. If for some reason he's out or limited against Baltimore, Harrison Bryant would see a boost in playing time for the Browns. Njoku has been a touchdown-dependent, low-end TE1 in fantasy.
Pat Freiermuth Injury Update
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth (hamstring) could be close to returning to the field. Freiermuth initially injured his hamstring in Week 4 and was placed on injured reserve in what was expected to be a short stay.
He began practicing fully ahead of Week 7 but reinjured his hamstring in practice and ultimately did not get activated. Freiermuth is now eyeing a return to the field in Week 11 against the Cleveland Browns after his team takes on the Green Bay Packers in Week 10. Fantasy managers will want to check waiver wires and scoop him up if he's still out there.
Austin Hooper Injury Update
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Austin Hooper (calf) was limited in the team's practice on Wednesday. Hooper played his usual snaps in the Raiders' 30-6 win over the New York Giants in Week 9, and the team is likely easing his practice reps to start the week.
The veteran caught his only target for 10 yards last week while remaining behind rookie tight end Michael Mayer on the depth chart. Hooper will have two more chances to upgrade to full before Las Vegas takes on the New York Jets in Week 10 on Sunday night football. If he suits up, he should only be started in extremely deep tight end premium leagues.
