George Kittle Injury Update
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (groin) returned to training camp practice on Monday, but he was a limited participant. The 49ers appear to be easing the star tight end back at practice, and he probably won't make an appearance in this Friday's preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers. The 29-year-old should be ready to go for Week 1 of the regular season, barring any setbacks.
The four-time Pro Bowler had 60 receptions for 765 yards in 15 regular season starts last year while also recording a career-high 11 touchdowns. There is some boom/bust to Kittle on a weekly basis given all of the mouths to feed in San Francisco's offense, but he has excellent chemistry with quarterback Brock Purdy and should remain a top-five tight end in fantasy.
T.J. Hockenson Injury Update
Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (ear) has been limited in training camp practices since Aug. 3 with what he's calling an ear infection. There's still plenty of time for Hockenson to get past his ear infection before the start of the regular season, but we'll continue to keep a close eye on his progress at training camp. It remains to be seen if the 26-year-old will play in Minnesota's preseason finale on Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals.
Hockenson was acquired midseason from the Detroit Lions in 2022 and finished with 60 catches (86 targets) for 519 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games (seven starts) with the Vikings. As long as he's healthy, he's a top-five fantasy tight end in Minnesota's pass-happy offense.
Mike Gesicki Injury Update
New England Patriots tight end Mike Gesicki (shoulder) returned to practice on Tuesday. The former Dolphin suffered a dislocated shoulder last week, so it's a positive sign to see him back in short order.
Gesicki has fantasy football intrigue as a mid-round tight end option. Overall, the Patriots offense could take a step forward under new offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien.
Chigoziem Okonkwo Injury Update
Tennessee Titans tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo (undisclosed) left Tuesday's practice early. There is no further information on his status just yet, so it will be worth monitoring moving forward. Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks (knee) and Kyle Philips (knee) are both banged up, so losing Okonkwo for any period of time would make the Titans' pass-catching group ultra-thin behind DeAndre Hopkins.
Assuming Okonkwo is fine, he carries a low-end fantasy TE2 outlook into 2023 after the arrival of Hopkins. That said, he could continue to be efficient and exceed expectations if Tennessee's offense has a bounce-back year.
