Most NFL teams have gone from having a featured running back to a backfield-by-committee approach. Unfortunately, that isn’t ideal for fantasy football players.
However, there are still a few featured running backs in the NFL. Christian McCaffrey, Bijan Robinson, Breece Hall, Jonathan Taylor, Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, and Isiah Pacheco will be featured guys in 2024. Unfortunately, all seven running backs have early-round ADPs this year.
Yet, fantasy players can find workhorse running backs in the middle rounds. Let’s look at three mid-round running backs who could have a featured role this season.

Alvin Kamara
The former Tennessee star has been the featured guy for the New Orleans Saints for the past few years. Kamara was an outstanding fantasy football running back in 2023 despite missing four games because of a suspension and injury. He had 180 rushing attempts for 694 yards and five touchdowns, accounting for 51.7% of the backfield attempts despite missing nearly a quarter of the season. While some think Kendre Miller could have a larger role in 2024, Kamara should remain the featured guy.

Jonathon Brooks
Brooks was the first running back selected during the 2024 NFL Draft despite coming off a torn ACL. He was outstanding last season, totaling 187 rushing attempts for 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns in 10 games. Hopefully, the talented rookie is 100% for Week 1. The Carolina Panthers just saw Chuba Hubbard average 3.8 yards per carry, with no running back on the roster able to outwork a healthy Brooks. The only way he isn’t a featured guy as a rookie is because of injury.

Zamir White
While White barely played over the first 13 games last season, the former Georgia star was outstanding over the final four games. He was the RB8, averaging 14.1 half-point PPR fantasy points per game during the four weeks Josh Jacobs missed with an injury despite having only one touchdown. The young running back had 20 or more touches in every contest, totaling 100 or more scrimmage yards in all but one game.
