Patrick Mahomes Injury Update
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (ankle) was able to put in a full practice on Wednesday. Mahomes had an injury scare in the blowout win over the Chicago Bears in Week 3 when his right ankle was rolled up on, but he remained in the game and wasn't limited in the team's first practice of the week. Unless the 28-year-old suffers a setback with his ankle later this week, he won't be in any danger at all of missing the Sunday night showdown in New York against the Jets.
Mahomes and the Chiefs offense was firing on all cylinders last Sunday, a great sign for fantasy managers moving forward. They'll face a pretty stingy Jets defense this weekend, but Mahomes is a must-start, regardless of matchup in fantasy. (Chiefs.com)
Joe Burrow Injury Update
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (calf) was listed as a full participant in Wednesday's practice for the first time since the week of the Baltimore Ravens game in Week 2. However, the Bengals only held a walkthrough practice on Wednesday, so his status was an estimation. The 26-year-old strained his calf at the beginning of training camp and missed all of the preseason before aggravating the injury in Week 2.
He gutted it out in the Monday night win over the Los Angeles Rams, but his mobility was very limited and he didn't look good by any means while throwing for 259 yards with no touchdowns and one interception on a great play by a Rams defensive back. The good news about Week 3 is he was finally able to get top wideout Ja'Marr Chase involved. Burrow should get better as the season progresses and his calf injury gets put behind him, but for now, he's more of a low-end QB1 in fantasy.
Jimmy Garoppolo Injury Update
Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels said that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol but that he has made some progress. "It's moving (forward), we'll just see how fast it's moving," McDaniels said. The Raiders remain optimistic that Garoppolo will eventually clear the concussion protocol later this week and be available to start in Week 4 against the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
Fantasy managers with star wideout Davante Adams are really hoping Jimmy G plays as well. If the 31-year-old can't gain clearance, veteran backup Brian Hoyer would be forced to make the start, which in turn would lower the fantasy value of all of the team's offensive skill players significantly. UPDATE: Garoppolo officially missed Wednesday's practice.
Derek Carr Injury Update
New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr (shoulder) was unable to practice on Wednesday. Carr is week-to-week heading into Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday after suffering an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder in the Week 3 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The 32-year-old is unlikely to make a return this week. Backup Jameis Winston didn't look good at all after taking over for the injured Carr last Sunday, but he's in line to make his first start of 2023 in Week 4.
Winston could fare better with a full week to prepare with starter's repetitions in practice, and the Saints offense is also getting running back Alvin Kamara back from suspension. The 29-year-old Winston will be in play as a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues if Carr is officially ruled out.
Bryce Young Injury Update
Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young (ankle) was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, which puts him on track to start in Week 4 on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Young tweaked his ankle in Week 2 and was held out in the Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. It appears the first overall pick in this year's draft will only miss the one game, though.
The 22-year-old hasn't looked very good behind a weak offensive line in his first two NFL games, but he'll be facing one of the most porous defenses in the league this weekend. We're not saying that Young is an option as a QB1 in single-quarterback leagues in his return, but he should be able to move the offense better than he did in Weeks 1 and 2.
Anthony Richardson Injury Update
Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson (concussion) is still in the league's concussion protocol but practiced in full on Wednesday. It's a good sign for Richardson's progress and chances to start in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams.
The first-round rookie suffered a concussion in Week 2 and was held out of last week's upset win over the Baltimore Ravens in overtime, but it looks like there's a chance he'll only miss one game. Although backup Gardner Minshew game-managed the team to a big win this past weekend, Richardson is going to be Indy's starter under center if he's cleared.
