Patrick Mahomes Injury Update
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (pectoral) got in a full practice on Wednesday ahead of his team's Week 14 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Mahomes found himself listed on the injury report with a pectoral injury as the Chiefs open their week of practices but it doesn't appear that this will be a major issue for the star quarterback ahead of a big game against the Bills.
Stay tuned to practice reports for the remainder of the week as Mahomes will look to get upgraded to full sessions ahead of Sunday.
Aaron Rodgers Injury Update
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) did not take part in practice on Wednesday. It's another planned day of rest for Rodgers, who could potentially still return in 2023 after tearing his Achilles in the season opener.
However, if the Jets continue losing, it's unlikely we'll see the 40-year-old take the field late in the season, even if he's physically able to do so. The Jets are going back to former first-round QB Zach Wilson as their starter in Week 14 against the Houston Texans after he was benched the last two games in favor of Tim Boyle. Expect Rodgers to return to limited practice participation later this week, but those holding out hope that he'll return this year are probably going to be disappointed.
Trevor Lawrence Injury Update
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday after suffering a high-ankle sprain in the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13. Lawrence's ankle was stepped on by one of his offensive linemen, leading to him missing the end of the overtime loss.
The Jaguars have not ruled him out for the Week 14 contest against the Cleveland Browns yet, but there's a good chance it will happen. In that case, veteran backup C.J. Beathard would draw a start under center. Calvin Ridley, Evan Engram, and Zay Jones could see reduced fantasy value without Lawrence, even with Christian Kirk (core) expected to miss the rest of the regular season.
Derek Carr Injury Update
New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr (head, rib, shoulder) practiced on Wednesday. Although it was only a limited session, it's still a positive development, considering the 32-year-old suffered a concussion in the Week 13 matchup with the Detroit Lions.
Of course, he remains in concussion protocol, so he's not out of the woods just yet. Nonetheless, assuming Carr can play in Week 14, he's a viable option for most fantasy managers. But if he's not available, Jameis Winston would likely be under center.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson Injury Update
Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) returned to practice on Wednesday in a limited basis after sitting out the Week 13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams due to a concussion he suffered in Week 12. It remains to be seen who would start at QB between Thompson-Robinson and veteran Joe Flacco if the rookie is cleared from the concussion protocol in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
For what it's worth, Flacco was taking first-team repetitions on Wednesday. The Browns lost in a blowout on Sunday, but Flacco wasn't terrible and had 254 passing yards and two touchdowns. The team could give him another start this weekend, even if DTR is available to play.
C.J. Beathard Injury Update
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. Beathard apparently picked up a shoulder injury after replacing Trevor Lawrence (ankle) in Monday night's overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Lawrence isn't being ruled out for the Week 14 contest against the Cleveland Browns, but he's likely to sit out following a high-ankle sprain on Monday night.
The 30-year-old Beathard went 12-for-14 for 77 yards and led the team to a game-tying field-goal drive to send the game to overtime on Monday. In six years in the NFL, he's appeared in 30 games and made 12 starts, completing 59.5% of his passes with 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. If he makes his first start since 2020 this weekend, he'll be a desperation low-end QB2 in Superflex leagues against a potent Browns defense.
