Jahmyr Gibbs Injury Update
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury at Monday night's training camp practice, according to a source. We still don't have a firm diagnosis on the severity of Gibbs' hamstring injury, but this could certainly be an injury that puts the 22-year-old second-year back's availability for the start of the 2024 regular season in a couple of weeks in question.

Especially in PPR fantasy leagues, he entered training camp as a midrange RB1 after a promising first year in the NFL, in which he finished as the RB10 in half-PPR setups. However, fantasy managers would be wise to knock Gibbs down a few pegs now on their RB1 rankings, while backfield mate David Montgomery's current Yahoo ADP of 48.9 is surely to go up in the coming days and weeks. Check back for a more clear timeline of when Gibbs could get back on the field.
Malik Nabers Injury Update
New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers (ankle) limped off the practice field on Sunday and the team thought it was a minor ankle sprain at the time. According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, it looks like the mild ankle sprain has been confirmed and Nabers seems to be considered day-to-day.
Update on Malik Nabers, per source: Still viewed as a mild ankle sprain, as was the initial belief. Sounds like he’s day-to-day.
— Dan Duggan (@DDuggan21) August 12, 2024
The Giants are likely to play it safe with their prized first-round pick, so fantasy managers will want to stay tuned for updates as the week progresses. Starting quarterback Daniel Jones is expected to play in the team's next preseason contest, so getting Nabers some reps with Jones is the ideal situation. We'll have to wait for some more official updates as the game gets closer.
Dak Prescott Injury Update
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (ankle) expects to practice when the team returns to the field on Tuesday, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. The veteran quarterback clarified that his ankle is "fine" even though soreness held him out of Dallas' preseason opener.
Dak Prescott said his ankle is fine. He plans on practicing when the Cowboys return to the field on Tuesday
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 12, 2024
Given that Prescott will practice on Tuesday, fantasy managers can let out a sigh of relief knowing that the Dallas quarterback avoided a serious injury. He remains on track to start for Dallas in Week 1, ranking as a low-end QB1 option in most redraft leagues.
J.J. McCarthy Injury Update
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell announced that rookie first-round quarterback J.J. McCarthy (knee) is dealing with knee soreness and won't take part in Monday night's training camp practice. The Vikings are likely just being overly cautious about who they hope will be their QB of the future. The 21-year-old Michigan product made his NFL debut in Saturday's preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders and went 11-for-17 for 188 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
#Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell announces that rookie QB JJ McCarthy is dealing with knee soreness and won't participate in tonight’s practice.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 12, 2024
McCarthy got off to a bad start but eventually settled in against backup defenders. Hopefully, his knee injury doesn't cause him to miss too much practice time, but either way, former first-rounder Sam Darnold is fully expected to open the year as Minnesota's starter as they slow-play the development of McCarthy.
UPDATE: McCarthy will undergo knee surgery, and the results of the surgery will determine how long he could be out. Stay tuned for updates.
Joe Mixon Injury Update
Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (quad) returned to practice on Sunday following a multi-week absence, according to a video from Aaron Wilson of KPRC2. Acquired from the Cincinnati Bengals during the offseason, Mixon now appears to be 100 percent and on track to lead the Houston backfield when the NFL season kicks off in a few weeks.

— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) August 11, 2024
Dameon Pierce may push to earn some touches in 2024, but Mixon, who tallied 1,410 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns last year, is their leadback and should be valued accordingly. He's a fringe top-12 running back in redraft fantasy football leagues.
Marquise Brown Injury Update
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown (shoulder) didn't require surgery after injuring his left shoulder in the preseason opener on Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to head coach Andy Reid. Brown was released from a hospital on Sunday morning and has returned to Kansas City.
Hollywood Brown avoided surgery with his injury, Andy Reid said. He’s back in KC.
— Sam McDowell (@SamMcDowell11) August 12, 2024
Specifically, the 27-year-old wideout injured the sternoclavicular joint in his shoulder and will miss some time, which could very well jeopardize his availability to kick off his first year in KC in a Thursday night battle against the Baltimore Ravens. Tyreek Hill had a similar injury back in 2019 and was forced to miss four regular-season games. With Rashee Rice potentially opening the season and serving a suspension, the Chiefs' receiving corps could be lacking, with rookie Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, and Kadarius Toney benefitting.
UPDATE: Brown is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, putting his Week 1 availability in doubt.
MarShawn Lloyd Injury Update
Green Bay Packers rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury in the team's preseason opener on Saturday against the Cleveland Browns, but the injury isn't viewed as serious, and Lloyd should be fine for the start of the regular season in early September. However, hamstring injuries can be tricky, so the Packers will be cautious with him.

— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) August 12, 2024
It's good news that Lloyd should be ready for Week 1, but his latest injury pretty much ensures that he'll open his rookie season in the NFL as the RB3 for the Packers behind starter Josh Jacobs and AJ Dillon. The 23-year-old was the team's fourth RB to get a touch on Saturday behind Jacobs, Dillon, and Emanuel Wilson. There's a good chance he'll be held out of the second preseason game this Sunday in Denver against the Broncos. When healthy, Lloyd has a real opportunity to surpass Dillon as Green Bay's RB2 in 2024 because of his explosiveness.
Zack Moss Injury Update
Cincinnati Bengals running back Zack Moss (illness) returned to practice Monday. He was spotted working with the first-team offense upon his return. Moss has been competing with Chase Brown for the No. 1 running back spot on the roster. Moss is coming off a career year with the Indianapolis Colts, where he ran for 794 yards and five touchdowns in relief of Jonathan Taylor.
Bengals RB Zack Moss is back at practice after being sick on Saturday. Repping with the 1s on this drive.
— Ben Baby (@Ben_Baby) August 12, 2024
The Bengals signed the 26-year-old to a two-year deal in March to replace Joe Mixon. However, Brown has generated a lot of buzz this offseason. It remains to be seen how the Bengals will deploy their running backs in 2024. Neither player is expensive to acquire in fantasy drafts, and both may be worth a shot.
Odell Beckham Jr. Injury Update
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (undisclosed) won't come off the Physically Unable to Perform list this week and is considered week-to-week with an undisclosed ailment. It was originally believed that Beckham would be fine to play for the Week 1 regular-season opener in early September, but that sentiment is now changing since he's still on the PUP list as we head into the second week of the preseason. When healthy, the 31-year-old pass-catcher is expected to serve as the team's WR4 behind Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Braxton Berrios.
Odell Beckham Jr. won't come off PUP this week, and is week to week. McDaniel said Tanner Conner will be "working his way back. I don't expect [him back] in the next couple of practices. Beyond that, it's hard for me to forecast."
— Barry Jackson (@flasportsbuzz) August 12, 2024
OBJ failed to stand out with 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns in 14 regular-season games for Baltimore in a receiving corps that had much more opportunity than his current situation in Miami. Beckham is currently being drafted in just 2% of Yahoo leagues.
Jerry Jeudy Injury Update
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (undisclosed) was not participating in team drills at practice on Monday. Jeudy was acquired by the Browns in March and signed a three-year $58 million contract extension. Jeudy projects to be the Browns' No. 2 wide receiver behind Amari Cooper. With David Njoku also in the fold for targets, Jeudy could wind up as the third target on the team. With Deshaun Watson struggling over the past couple of seasons, the fantasy value of Jeudy is unknown.
Browns practice just ended. Some notes, observations, etc.
🏈 Germain Ifedi split some first-team LT reps with James Hudson
🏈 No Jerry Jeudy in team drills today
🏈 Michael Woods had a good day, QBs found him over the middle multiple times
🏈 Myles Harden picked off Jameis…
— Daniel Oyefusi (@DanielOyefusi) August 12, 2024
Jeudy finished 2023 with 758 receiving yards and two touchdowns. It was a down season for the former first-round pick, who seemed to be ascending after a career year with the Denver Broncos in 2022. Ultimately, the Broncos grew tired of waiting for the breakout and shipped Jeudy to Cleveland. Jeudy is an afterthought in fantasy drafts at the moment. If he can recapture any of his 2022 magic, then he will be an excellent value in 2024.
Hendon Hooker Injury Update
Detroit Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker (head) is in concussion protocol, and head coach Dan Campbell said the 26-year-old is unlikely to return to practice until at least Friday. Hooker, a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Tennessee, played in his first preseason game on Thursday after missing his entire rookie campaign following a torn ACL in his final collegiate season.
#Lions Dan Campbell says some starters could play at #Chiefs. Depends on quality of work starters get these next 3 practices.
QB Hendon Hooker more than likely won’t get back to the field before Friday while in concussion protocol. Adding a QB to the roster has been discussed.
— Dannie (@dannierogers___) August 11, 2024
He completed five of his nine passing attempts for 36 yards and led the team with 34 rushing yards before getting banged up against the New York Giants. While he should have plenty of time to be ready for Week 1, missing practice time as he tries to beat out Nate Sudfeld for the QB2 role behind Jared Goff is far from ideal. The team signed veteran quarterback Jake Fromm on Monday, which could be a sign that Hooker won't play this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs.
