Tua Tagovailoa Injury Update
The Miami Dolphins have named quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) as their starter in Week 7 against the Steelers. The report comes from head coach Mike McDaniel. The 24-year-old entered the concussion protocol in Week 4 during their game against the Bengals but has since been cleared.
The team elected to stick with rookie Skylar Thompson (thumb) as the starter on Sunday, with Teddy Bridgewater as his backup. The expectation was that the Alabama product would return this week, which the team has now confirmed. Given the publicity and controversy surrounding the situation, it will be worth monitoring as the week progresses to ensure he does suit up. For now, fantasy managers can expect Tagovailoa to return to action, which bodes well for their elite receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Kenny Pickett Injury Update
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol, but his practice work will not be limited this week. "If he can play," Tomlin said, "he will play." The Steelers play on Sunday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins this week, so Pickett will have a little extra time to clear the protocol after getting knocked out of the Week 6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 24-year-old first-rounder went 11-for-18 for 67 yards and a touchdown before leaving. The Steelers will get Mitch Trubisky ready to go just in case, but if Pickett clears the protocol, the team will likely stick with him as the starter against Miami.
Russell Wilson Injury Update
Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson (hamstring) is considered day-to-day after an MRI exam on Tuesday. The 33-year-old suffered a hamstring injury during Monday's overtime loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. It sounds like the team is going to wait and see how Wilson feels throughout the week.
Fantasy managers should consider him questionable for the Week 7 matchup against the New York Jets. The Broncos would likely start Brett Rypien, assuming Wilson is unable to go. He wouldn't be a recommended streaming option, but honestly Wilson hasn't brought much to the table either lately. Regardless, fantasy managers are likely going to have to wait and see how Wilson feels during practice this week.
Joshua Kelley Injury Update
Los Angeles Chargers running back Joshua Kelley (knee) is expected to miss multiple weeks of action, according to head coach Brandon Staley. The 24-year-old sprained his MCL during Monday's game against the Denver Broncos.
Kelley was the primary backup to Austin Ekeler in Los Angeles. Now, Sony Michel and Isaiah Spiller should have bigger roles in the offense. Possibly Michel has some deep league value, but Ekeler is expected to handle a bulk of the work in the backfield.
Keenan Allen Injury Update
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen (hamstring) is on pace to practice this week, according to head coach Brandon Staley. The 30-year-old has played in only one game this season as he continues to deal with a lingering hamstring issue. The Chargers have been playing it extremely cautious with Allen.
This is obviously a frustrating situation for fantasy managers, but it sounds like Allen is finally making progress. He'd be a low-end WR2, assuming he's actually able to suit up against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7. Fantasy managers will need to continue to monitor his status throughout the week.
Chris Olave Injury Update
New Orleans Saints rookie first-round wide receiver Chris Olave (concussion) isn't listed on the team's first injury report ahead of the Thursday night game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7. Olave was held out of the Week 6 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but he's cleared the league's concussion protocol and is on track to play on Thursday.
Michael Thomas (foot) and Jarvis Landry (ankle) are both expected to miss another game, too, so Olave is in line to be the team's top-targeted receiver against Arizona. The 22-year-old found the end zone in back-to-back weeks before missing Sunday's game. He's been impressive in his first five NFL games, catching 25 of his 42 targets for 389 yards and two touchdowns.
Marquise Brown Injury Update
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown's (foot) MRI results on Monday showed that his foot injury isn't as bad as the team initially feared. He's dealing with a small, non-surgical-fracture, according to a source, and the recovery time will be about six weeks. Brown will get a second opinion from Dr. Robert Anderson before moving forward.
Barring a change in prognosis, he should land on Injured Reserve but return later this season. Fantasy managers need to keep Brown stashed everywhere, although the return of DeAndre Hopkins this week and the acquisition of Robbie Anderson will give Brown plenty of competition for targets once he's back. Through six games in 2022 in his first year in Arizona, Brown caught 43 of his 64 targets for 485 yards and three touchdowns as the team's top wideout.
Rashod Bateman Injury Update
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman (foot) could return soon, as head coach John Harbaugh revealed Bateman was dealing with a sprain. Bateman will return as the clear No. 1 WR for quarterback Lamar Jackson when he is back, but he'll still fall somewhere behind tight end Mark Andrews.
This passing attack is desperate for playmakers, and Bateman showed he can be an X factor during the first two weeks of the season. In favorable matchups, he'll be very much back in the fantasy spotlight when he returns to the field.
