Dak Prescott Injury Update
Dak Prescott has been sidelined for the Dallas Cowboys since suffering a thumb injury in Week 1, but it appears he's nearing a return. After being limited in practice on Thursday and logging as full practice on Friday, Prescott is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Pro Bowl quarterback was able to throw a football for the first time since his injury occurred this week, making his return imminent. That being said, the Cowboys have won four straight games with Cooper Rush under center, so there's no rush for Dallas to force Prescott back on the field.
The Cowboys have stated all week that they expect Rush to make another start in Week 6 versus the Eagles, though, Prescott will throw in pregame warmups. All signs are pointing toward Week 7 against the Detroit Lions being the soonest we see the veteran signal-caller returning for Dallas.
Tua Tagovailoa Injury Update
Tua Tagovailoa made positive strides toward returning to the Miami Dolphins as he returned to practice this week. While Tagovailoa has already been ruled out for Sunday's tilt with the Minnesota Vikings, he was able to practice in full on Friday.
The former first-round pick remains in concussion protocol, and hopefully this time around, Miami prioritizes his long-term health before allowing him to return. Besides Tagovailoa, Teddy Bridgewater made progress toward returning after being placed in the concussion protocol after a hit to the head in Week 5.
The Dolphins have revealed that Skylar Thompson is expected to start on Sunday with Bridgewater needing to be cleared from the concussion protocol before he can play again. With Thompson likely starting, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle could see less production in the passing game against the Vikings.
Mac Jones Injury Update
Mac Jones was doubtful last week for the New England Patriots and he would end up being ruled out versus the Detroit Lions with an ankle injury. The second-year quarterback has made enough progress in his recovery as he's listed as questionable to play in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns.
After Jones was ruled out in Week 5, rookie Bailey Zappe made his first career start en route to the Patriots shutting out the Lions 29-0. So if the first-round pick from a season ago is unable to go on Sunday, New England is confident in Zappe being able to hold down the fort until Jones returns.
If Jones is unable to go for the second straight week, he'll have some extra time to get ready for a Week 7 showdown with the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
Jameis Winston Injury Update
The New Orleans Saints are taking a cautious approach with Jameis Winston as he recovers from a back ailment. The Saints have already announced that Andy Dalton will make another start on Sunday versus the Cincinnati Bengals while Winston practiced in a limited fashion this week.
It's a good sign that Winston was able to return to practice this week after failing to log a single practice last week. Meanwhile, there's still a chance that the former first-round pick is inactive for the Saints in Week 6, making Taysom Hill the backup to Dalton again.
Despite his recent progress, it remains to be seen if Winston can return in Week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals with it being a Thursday Night Football game.
Baker Mayfield Injury Update
Baker Mayfield suffered an ankle injury in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers and the initial reports suggested he could miss multiple weeks of action. While the Carolina Panthers are listing the former first-round pick is listed as doubtful, P.J. Walker is going to start on Sunday versus the Los Angeles Rams.
Mayfield was seen in a walking boot following last week's loss to the 49ers, so it was expected for him to miss time. After not practicing all week, Mayfield was seen without a walking boot on Friday and he was throwing off to the side in practice.
It's already known that Walker is going to draw the start for the Panthers, but they are leaving the door open for Mayfield to operate as the backup on Sunday. That being said, it seems as if the soonest we see Mayfield return is Week 7 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
