Justin Herbert Injury Update
The Los Angeles Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs had a hard-fought Thursday Night Football game in Week 2 that ended with Justin Herbert suffering broken rib cartilage. After not practicing with the Chargers on Friday, Herbert is considered questionable entering Sunday's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The current plan is for the gunslinging quarterback to see how his ribs feel in pre-game warmups and go from there. Herbert was noticeable struggling to make throws at the end of last week's loss to the Chiefs, so the Chargers could certainly take a cautious approach with their franchise quarterback.
It will be worth monitoring Herbert's status on Sunday, though, it's unfortunate that his game takes place in the afternoon. If Herbert is unable to go, Chase Daniel would likely start in his place and the skill players in Los Angeles would take a massive hit in their value.
Trey Lance Injury Update
Trey Lance was finally getting an opportunity to be the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers to begin this season, but his season has sadly been cut short due to an injury. The second-year quarterback sustained a broken ankle that required him to undergo season-ending surgery.
The injury occurred on a designed run play for Lance, where he ran the ball into the teeth of the defense. He would get his leg tangled up and he would need to be carted off of the field versus the Seattle Seahawks.
Jimmy Garoppolo stepped in for Lance following his exit from the game and he'll start under center moving forward. While the running game of the 49ers could take a slight hit, the passing game could see a boost with Garoppolo being comfortable in Kyle Shanahan's offense.
Jameis Winston Injury Update
Jameis Winston has been dealing with a back injury since Week 1 and he continues to deal with the same issue entering Week 3. Ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Carolina Panthers, Winston is listed as questionable with back and ankle injuries after being limited in practice all week.
The veteran quarterback didn't let his back injury prevent him from playing last week, though, considering that it's believed that he has multiple broken bones in his back, it could have led to his three-interception performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2.
Besides the back injury, Winston is also dealing with an ankle ailment now, which is far from ideal against a solid pass-rushing unit of the Panthers that is led by Brian Burns. It's expected for the former first-round pick to suit up on Sunday, but if you have other options at quarterback, it's probably best to start them over Winston in Week 3.
