Lamar Jackson Injury Update
The Baltimore Ravens were optimistic that Lamar Jackson would be able to return to action in Week 17 following a three-game absence from the former NFL MVP. But after not practicing in any capacity throughout the week, the Ravens have ruled Jackson out for a fourth straight game.
The electric quarterback suffered a sprained PCL in Week 13 against the Denver Broncos and he was replaced by Tyler Huntley. Huntley will make his fourth consecutive start for the Ravens on Sunday as it remains to be seen if Jackson can return before the end of the regular season.
In his first three starts, Huntley has combined for only 341 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and an interception while he's also rushed for 72 yards on 26 attempts. With Huntley under center, it's hard to trust anyone outside of J.K. Dobbins in Week 17 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Jalen Hurts Injury Update
The Philadelphia Eagles left the door open for Jalen Hurts to start in Week 17, but it appears he'll miss another week of action for the current No. 1 seed in the NFC. After returning to practice in a limited capacity this week, the Eagles are listing Hurts as doubtful to play on Sunday versus the New Orleans Saints.
The positive news is that Hurts seemingly made positive progress in his recovery and there's a chance he could return in Week 18 if the Eagles need him to secure the No. 1 seed. Meanwhile, Gardner Minshew will make his second straight start for the Eagles.
Minshew performed well in Week 16 against the Dallas Cowboys, completing 24 of his 40 attempts for 355 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while also scoring a rushing touchdown. It's evident that the Eagles trust Minshew under center, so fire up the skill players in Philadelphia with confidence while Minshew is a solid option at home versus the New Orleans Saints.
Trevor Lawrence Injury Update
Trevor Lawrence has made an appearance on the injury report for the Jacksonville Jaguars since Week 14 due to a toe injury he sustained in Week 13. The second-year quarterback is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Houston Texans.
While he's officially questionable to play, Lawrence has yet to miss a game due to the toe ailment he's dealing with and Doug Pederson iterated that the Jaguars aren't resting players in Week 17. Next week's game against the Tennessee Titans is vital in Jacksonville's chances of making the playoffs by winning the AFC South, but the Jaguars can still sneak into the postseason with a Wild Card berth.
Not many quarterbacks have been playing better than Lawrence as he's thrown for 1,909 yards, 14 touchdowns, and one interception in his last seven outings. Assuming that Lawrence suits up again on Sunday, both he and the skill players on the Jaguars are worth starting against a struggling Texans squad.
Tua Tagovailoa Injury Update
Earlier this week, the Miami Dolphins revealed that Tua Tagovailoa entered the NFL's concussion protocol again and his status for Week 17 was in doubt. Following his third head/neck injury of the season, Tagovailoa has been ruled out for Sunday's pivotal game against the New England Patriots.
Tagovailoa hit his head on the ground in Week 16 versus the Green Bay Packers and he proceeded to play the entire second half after the hit. The young quarterback's long-term health should be prioritized, and the Dolphins are saying they are putting his safety above everything else, so it would be surprising to see him play in Week 18.
With Tagovailoa sidelined, veteran Teddy Bridgewater is set to make his first appearance since Week 6 when he threw for 329 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in relief of Tagovailoa. While it's unfortunate to see Tagovailoa suffer another head-related injury, guys like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle should remain in lineups in Week 17.
Colt McCoy Injury Update
The Arizona Cardinals expressed optimism in Colt McCoy returning in Week 17 after missing last week's contest due to a head injury. Despite the early optimism, the Cardinals revealed that he had concussion-like symptoms on Friday and have ruled him out for Sunday's matchup versus the Atlanta Falcons.
The Cardinals aren't in playoff contention, so they understand there's no need to rush McCoy back in the final two weeks of the season. After Trace McSorley made his first career start in Week 16, Arizona is electing to bench him in favor of David Blough on Sunday.
Blough made five starts for the Detroit Lions in 2019 and accrued 984 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions in those five starts. Outside of James Conner, it's hard to trust any of the skill players on the Cardinals in Week 17 versus the Falcons.
