Let's look at the updates for some wide receivers and see whether they may play in Week 9.
Keenan Allen Injury Update
Keenan Allen has been battling a hamstring injury for the majority of the season. While he made his return to the field in Week 7, the veteran did not participate in practice this past week. Even with an extra week to heal up with the Chargers coming off of a bye, Allen was officially ruled out for Sunday's matchup with the Atlanta Falcons on Friday.
Keenan Allen (hamstring) is OUT for Sunday vs. Falcons.
— Daniel Popper (@danielrpopper) November 4, 2022
Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said the injury has not “responded the way that we hoped” this past Wednesday, suggesting Allen made his return to the field too quickly in Week 7. Whether or not the injury was re-aggravated is unknown, but fantasy managers will need to prepare to be without the Chargers' No. 1 receiver for more than this week.
With Mike Williams (ankle) also missing this game, Joshua Palmer, DeAndre Carter, and Gerald Everett should see the biggest boost in targets Sunday.
Allen Lazard Injury Update
Allen Lazard missed last Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills due to a shoulder injury he suffered in Week 7 against Washington. The 26-year-old practiced all week in a limited fashion and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the division-rival Detroit Lions.
De'Vondre Campbell and Shemar Jean-Charles are out for Sunday in Detroit.
Bakhtiari, Jenkins, Lazard, Watson and Preston Smith are questionable.
— Matt Schneidman (@mattschneidman) November 4, 2022
Head Coach Matt LaFleur called Lazard a game-time decision Friday, but he has a solid chance at suiting up after practicing all week. The No. 1 target for Aaron Rodgers should be considered a solid WR3 with top-24 upside against one of the worst defenses in football. If Lazard does sit, Sammy Watkins and Romeo Doubs would see a target bump.
Ja'Marr Chase Injury Update
Ja'Marr Chase missed last week's game due to a hip injury. It was reported that the sophomore receiver would miss 4-6 weeks, and that statement has rung true so far. Chase missed all of practice this past week and was unsurprisingly ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Friday.
Expected starters at CB for Bengals this week will be Cam Taylor-Britt, Eli Apple and Jalen Davis. Dax Hill coming off the bench.
No Reader, no Awuzie, no Hilton, no Chase. Phew.
Lot on the shoulders of No. 9.
— Paul Dehner Jr. (@pauldehnerjr) November 4, 2022
This will be week two in Chase's recovery from the injury, but the team has ruled out putting him on the IR in hopes he could attempt a return in Week 11. Continue to monitor practice reports in the coming weeks to be sure of his potential return.
Marquise Goodwin Injury Update
Marquise Goodwin suffered a groin injury this past week against the New York Giants. The injury sidelined the 31-year-old this past week at practice, and he was officially ruled out for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday.
Seahawks rule out Marquise Goodwin and Darrell Taylor. Everyone else pretty much good to go. Taylor's injury one reason for Seahawks signing Bruce Irvin to the 53: pic.twitter.com/2odxYaSqNR
— Bob Condotta (@bcondotta) November 4, 2022
Goodwin had seen his role in the offense increase the past few weeks with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf banged up, so it is a shame he will not be available as a bye-week fill-in for those in need against Arizona. Dee Eskridge will fill in for the injured vet but is not a viable fantasy option.
Josh Reynolds Injury Update
Josh Reynolds has been battling knee issues for the first two months of the season, but he was listed with a back injury this past Wednesday. The limited practice session was followed up with two back-to-back non-participations, and Detroit listed the 27-year-old as doubtful for Sunday's matchup with the Green Bay Packers.
Not at practice:
- WR Josh Reynolds
- OT Matt Nelson
- DB Ifeatu Melifonwu
- CB Chase Lucas
- CB AJ ParkerPenei Sewell is back. Brock Wright no longer in the red no-contact jersey.
— Jeremy Reisman (@DetroitOnLion) November 4, 2022
Reynolds had a solid fantasy run in Weeks 3-5 but had seen his usage in the offense dip over the past two games. His absence will give Kalif Raymond the starting gig opposite Amon-Ra St. Brown, and he should be considered a WR4/5 in Week 9 with six teams on bye.
Christian Watson Injury Update
Christian Watson suffered a concussion on his first catch of the game last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. The rookie has been progressing through the concussion protocol this past week and was spotted in pads at practice. He is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.
David Bakhtiari isn’t practicing for the second straight day.
Elgton Jenkins is back out here.
Christian Watson is practicing outside today after his DNP yesterday, but he’s still working through the concussion protocol.
De’Vondre Campbell, Shemar Jean-Charles also DNPs.
— Matt Schneidman (@mattschneidman) November 3, 2022
Watson will have to contend with fellow rookie Romeo Doubs and veteran Sammy Watkins for snaps if he does suit up, but he was involved early last week after making his return from a hamstring injury, so his ceiling for targets could be higher than many are expecting. He should be considered a boom-or-bust FLEX option against Detroit if he can get on the field.
Russell Gage Injury Update
Russell Gage missed last week's matchup against the Ravens due to a lingering hamstring injury. The 26-year-old failed to participate in any practice this past week and was officially ruled out Friday for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Antoine Winfield Jr., Cam Brate, Luke Goedeke and Russell Gage are all out for Sunday’s game vs. Rams.
— Rick Stroud (@NFLSTROUD) November 4, 2022
Julio Jones made his return last week and was left off the final injury report this past Friday for the first time in a long time. Gage can safely be dropped in redraft leagues and should not be considered a viable fantasy option unless Jones is out.
DeAndre Carter Injury Update
DeAndre Carter appeared on the injury report Friday and is listed with an illness. The severity of the illness is unknown, but the 29-year-old was officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
WR DeAndre Carter (illness) was added to injury report today and he is QUESTIONABLE.
— Daniel Popper (@danielrpopper) November 4, 2022
Carter is slated to start as the No. 2 wide receiver with Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle) already ruled out. If the veteran is able to suit up, he could be a viable FLEX option in deeper leagues this week with six teams on bye. However, if he is ruled out, Joshua Palmer and Gerald Everett would see the biggest boost in targets.
Van Jefferson Injury Update
Van Jefferson made his season debut last week after missing the first seven weeks of the season recovering from knee surgery. The 26-year-old was limited in practice this week and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
Final Rams/Bucs injury report. Allen, Kupp, Jefferson all expected to play. I saw Allen doing the Griddy during a break in practice, so maybe the dance itself pops up on the injury report, but Allen seems to be OK. pic.twitter.com/2ZjctNs0IO
— Jourdan Rodrigue (@JourdanRodrigue) November 4, 2022
The Rams expect Jefferson to play Sunday, even though they have made sure to limit his practice reps. He was not targeted last week but should become more involved with the offense each week. Jefferson is not a great fantasy option this week but is someone to watch as a potential waiver wire add next week.
Corey Davis Injury Update
Corey Davis missed last week's game against New England due to a knee injury he suffered the week prior. The veteran receiver missed practice this past week and was officially ruled out for Sunday's game against Buffalo on Friday.
Corey Davis is out. Saleh said they hope he'll be back after the bye.
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) November 4, 2022
Sitting Davis out this week to allow him an extra week of recovery with a bye in Week 10 seems to be the right decision. Garrett Wilson will remain the Jets' top target, while Denzel Mims and Elijah Moore should see a slight target bump with Davis out.
Jahan Dotson Injury Update
Jahon Dotson has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury since Week 5. The rookie seems close to a return, but with no practice participation this past week, he had little chance to suit up this week. Dotson was officially ruled out for Sunday's game against Minnesota on Friday.
Rivera said they're hoping to get Jahan Dotson back next week.
— John Keim (@john_keim) November 4, 2022
Washington should have their promising rookie back next week, according to head coach Ron Rivera, and they will need him to try and bring Philadelphia's undefeated streak to an end. Grab Dotson now if you have an available bench spot, as he will likely be a top waiver addition next Tuesday.
DeVante Parker Injury Update
DeVante Parker suffered a knee injury during last week's game against New York Jets. The 29-year-old did not return to the practice field this week and was officially ruled out for Sunday's game against Indianapolis on Friday.
The Patriots aren’t ruling RB Damien Harris (illness) out yet, making him one of seven questionable players along with new addition CB Jack Jones (illness). pic.twitter.com/qYkbuuFF1m
— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) November 4, 2022
With New England's bye in Week 10, it was smart for the Patriots to sit Parker in practice this week to give him extra time to heal up. He is safe to drop in redraft formats if you have better options on your waiver wire. Parker's absence will allow Kendrick Bourne and Nelson Agholor to see a higher snap share.
