David Montgomery Injury Update
Montgomery (ribs) returned to practice on Tuesday and is making good progress ahead of Week 10 versus the Chargers. The 26-year-old hasn't played in a game since injuring himself during Week 6. Returning to the field would presumably vault Montgomery back into RB2 territory, though the recent emergence of Jahmyr Gibbs has certainly complicated the dynamic of Detroit's backfield.
Khalil Herbert Injury Update
Herbert (ankle) was designated to return from IR this week and has logged back-to-back full practices. At this rate, it looks quite likely that he'll suit up on Thursday Night Football versus the Panthers. Herbert isn't a game-changing player but could reclaim the role of No. 1 running back in Chicago over D'Onta Foreman. Doing so would vault him into the RB3 tier for fantasy purposes.
11/9 UPDATE: Herbert was not activated from IR ahead of Thursday's game, so he is officially OUT.
Cam Akers Injury Update
Akers (ankle) was diagnosed with a ruptured Achilles tendon following Sunday's win over the Falcons. It's a crushing blow for the young running back who has now suffered season-ending Achilles injuries twice in his career. Look for Ty Chandler to earn more snaps behind Alexander Mattison going forward.
Kendre Miller Injury Update
Miller (ankle) has been diagnosed with an ankle sprain. He suffered the injury in Week 9 versus Chicago. While there's no additional information on the rookie's status or the severity of his injury, it's fair to wonder if he might not be healthy in time for Sunday's contest. Regardless of his availability, Alvin Kamara will continue to operate as the Saints' lead back while Jamaal Williams occupies the backup role.
