Week 14 Fantasy Football FLEX Outlooks and Rankings Analysis
A new feature has been added to our weekly fantasy football rankings article. Below, you will find our fantasy football outlooks for key options in Week 14, which gives readers a matchup preview of that player and advice on whether to start or avoid for the upcoming week. We provide outlooks for all 32 NFL teams, which can be found on our player profile pages and our fantasy football news desk.
Jerick McKinnon, RB, Kansas City Chiefs
Week 14 FLEX PPR Rank: 77
Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon (groin) is back after a two-game absence with a groin injury for Week 14's duel with the Buffalo Bills. McKinnon has operated under an ancillary role all season, handling 13 carries for 30 yards (career-worst 2.3 YPC) alongside 19 receptions for an additional 156 yards and three total touchdowns. But McKinnon returns just time for the Chiefs, who will be without lead back Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) on Sunday for the first time this year.
While it's arguably Clyde Edwards-Helaire who presents the largest boost in short-term fantasy value, K.C. could also lean on McKinnon's pass-catching expertise. Buffalo's defense has permitted the fourth-most targets (89), catches (68) and receiving yards (559) to the position, and they've also allowed the third-highest yards per carry (4.7). The 31-year-old veteran is a PPR RB3 with RB2 upside while in line for a bigger workload.
Courtland Sutton, WR, Denver Broncos
Week 14 FLEX PPR Rank: 41
Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton has been a touchdown machine in 2023 with a career-high nine scores in 12 games, which ranks third among all wideouts, behind only Tyreek Hill (12) and Mike Evans (10). He broke a five-game TD streak in Week 12 but returned to the end zone in last week's loss to the Houston Texans.
The 28-year-old is the WR15 overall in half-PPR scoring and is a must-start, low-end WR2 in Week 14 for a juicy matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, a defense that has given up the third-most half-PPR points per game (33.2) to opposing pass-catchers in 2023. The Broncos couldn't get into a rhythm last week against the Houston Texans on offense, but they should be able to bounce back on Sunday against LA, and Sutton will continue to be the focal point through the air.
Puka Nacua, WR, Los Angeles Rams
Week 14 FLEX PPR Rank: 39
Los Angeles Rams rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua (shoulder) went from being limited in practice on Wednesday to a full participant in Thursday's session. Head coach Sean McVay didn't seem worried about Nacua at all on Wednesday despite the fact that he suffered an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder in the Week 13 win over the Cleveland Browns.
The 23-year-old may not be 100 percent healthy in Week 14 against the Baltimore Ravens, but he needs to remain in all starting fantasy lineups despite the difficult matchup. Nacua has already topped 1,000 yards receiving through his first 12 NFL games and should be targeted heavily by quarterback Matthew Stafford yet again this Sunday.
Rashee Rice, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
Week 14 FLEX PPR Rank: 46
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice set modest season highs in snap share (70.1%), route participation (72.2%), and catches (eight) in last Sunday night's loss to the Green Bay Packers. It's a sign that while Rice's role has yet to expand beyond the short and intermediate levels of the field (two 2023 deep targets), he's receiving high-percentage looks at or around the line of scrimmage to maximize his yards-after-catch prowess (fourth among WRs with 422 YAC).
The Chiefs simply haven't exhibited any level of trust to turn the second-round rookie loose down the field for a full complement of routes despite the bungling deep threats surrounding him, perhaps likely in part because of Rice's six drops in Year 1. Unlikely to get the proper looks to break through the WR3 fantasy barrier and enter the WR2 rung, Rice is a high-floor FLEX across all formats as the preferred wideout for two-time MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Roschon Johnson, RB, Chicago Bears
Week 14 FLEX PPR Rank: 90
Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson has struggled to find a consistent role in 2023, but he's coming off season-high usage in their last game in Week 12. The rookie rushed 10 times for 35 yards and caught all five targets for 40 yards, playing on 74% of the snaps. Before Week 12, Johnson had never played more than 45% of the snaps and saw a drastic increase with D'Onta Foreman (ankle) out. Rookies typically receive larger roles following the bye, and Johnson could maintain a similar workload for the rest of the season.
Foreman isn't on the injury report ahead of Week 14, set to return, and Khalil Herbert is likely to get touches. The Bears face the Lions in Week 14, who allow the fourth-fewest points per game to running backs this season. While Johnson may not see much work near the goal line, his receiving usage makes him an intriguing but risky option for Week 14.
