Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Breakout CFB Performances From Week 5

Mike Marteny takes a look at 2022 breakout collegiate stars that will be available in your fantasy football dynasty drafts within the next year or two. Who should you keep an eye on?

We have a new piece here at RotoBaller to highlight those college football players that are turning heads at the collegiate level that could be playing for your favorite team, and fantasy team, sometime very soon. You don't want the first time you hear of a player being their name called at the NFL draft, right?

We are going to help you get acclimated with these college players earlier than many of your fantasy football leaguemates. We here at RotoBaller are all about giving you an advantage.

I will highlight one quarterback, one running back, and one wide receiver in every week of the college season that put up some really big numbers and let you know what it means for your dynasty leagues. Do these guys have NFL futures? You'll find out!

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Quarterbacks

Jayden de Laura, Arizona (33-46, 484 yards, 6TD vs. Colorado)

I get it. The Ralphies are bad, but they usually aren't this bad. de Laura set a new career-high with 484 passing yards and six touchdowns. Keep in mind that he came from an air raid system at Washington State to Arizona. This marked de Laura's second consecutive game with over 400 passing yards. He has some playmakers around him in Tucson. Maybe enough to make him want to come back next year.

de Laura is a little undersized for a pro quarterback, but he has a strong arm and is accurate on deep balls. Not only that, but in moving from an air raid scheme to more of a pro-style system at Arizona, de Laura has proven that he can make all of the throws that will be required of him at the next level. He is starting to turn some heads for an Arizona team that hit rock-bottom last year.

Honorable mention: Max Duggan, TCU; Holton Ahlers, East Carolina

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Running Backs

Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama (18 carries, 206 yards, 2TD; 2 receptions, 20 yards at Arkansas)

It means a little more when someone has a big day like this against another ranked team. Gibbs is a big reason why Alabama was able to come out of Fayetteville with a win even after their Heiman-winning quarterback got hurt in the second quarter. The Tide rode the legs of Gibbs and backup quarterback Jalen Milroe for the win and reclaimed the number one ranking.

Gibbs toiled away in relative obscurity for a bad Georgia Tech team the last two years, but he has exploded onto the national scene at Alabama. He is averaging 8.8 yards per carry this season and is still very active in the passing game. Gibbs has 79 receptions in his college career with eight receiving touchdowns. That is going to make him a coveted back at the NFL level and a name to keep an eye on in PPR leagues.

Honorable mention: Marquez Cooper, Kent State; Miyan Williams, Ohio State

Fantasy Football Dynasty Watch: Wide Receivers

C.J. Johnson, East Carolina (7 receptions, 197 yards, 4TD vs. South Florida)

Johnson caught four of the six touchdowns that Holton Ahlers threw in this game. Surprisingly enough, this wasn't Johnson's best career game. In his freshman year in 2019, Johnson racked up 283 yards on 12 receptions against a nationally ranked Cincinnati team that had a couple of future NFL players in their secondary. This is a redemption story for Johnson, who was indefinitely suspended from the program back in February but worked his way back into the good graces of the coaching staff.

Johnson has the size to hold up in the NFL and has great hands. He has caught a pass in 35 of his 38 career games at ECU. Nearly two-thirds of his career receptions are for more than ten yards. He will go up and get passes, which is something NFL scouts love.

Honorable mention: Monaray Baldwin, Baylor; Dante Cephas, Kent State

Be sure to stay tuned all season long to see these coming attractions!
