There are plenty of polls for NCAA College Basketball Rankings - the Associated Press, ESPN, USA Today, to name a few. But none look at the top college basketball teams in the land from the perspective of the fantasy hoops player.
So which CBB teams rate in the Top 10, according to fantasy metrics? Each week, we'll be bringing you our top 10 NCAA college basketball teams in the nation.
Below are our CBB rankings for the week of January 19, 2016 (won-loss records are as of the time of this writing).
NCAA College Basketball (CBB) Rankings
1. Oklahoma, 15-2
The Sooners overtake Big 12 foes Kansas in our poll, as well as the AP's. But they make the move not because they keep winning, but because they keep scoring. As of this writing, Oklahoma ranks fourth in DI in scoring, averaging 86.3 points per game.
2. Kansas, 15-3
Following a 1-1 week, the Jayhawks dropped several places in some polls, but fall only to No. 2 here at RotoBaller. Bill Self's team is still sixth in the nation in scoring (85.8 PPG).
3. North Carolina, 16-2
Roy Williams' team moved up in our CBB rankings because they keep winning--and scoring--in the ACC. The Tar Heels' offense ranks third in the nation, and the team has six players averaging in double figures, led by senior forward Brice Johnson who is essentially good for a double-double every game.
4. West Virginia, 15-2
The Mountaineers keep winning, and keep filling the stat sheet with steals and blocked shots. They won't help fantasy players in the "glamor" categories, but they are a good source for points in leagues that rate steals highly.
5. USC, 15-3
Southern Cal may be a "football school," but they debut in our Top 10 this week because they put up basketball numbers: six Trojans are averaging double figures in scoring, and sophomore guard Jordan McLaughlin is averaging more than five assists per contest.
6. SMU, 18-0
Another debut in this week's NCAA CBB rankings, the Mustangs' gaudy 18-0 doesn't offer much to fantasy owners, but senior point guard Nic Moore does--he is their leading scorer and assist-maker.
7. Michigan State, 16-3
A couple of tough losses this week have hurt the Spartans' in conventional polls, but they remain stout defensively and an excellent rebounding team.
8. Providence, 16-3
Point guard Kris Dunn isn't flying under the radar anymore--and neither are the Friars.
9. South Carolina, 17-1
The Gamecocks may be the most underrated--or overrated--team in the country. We'll know soon enough. Meanwhile, five Gamecocks are averaging double figures in scoring, and they are still a great source for stat categories such as rebounding, defense and blocked shots.
10. Arizona, 15-3
I like what I see in Tuscon--especially double-double machine Ryan Anderson.
