Best Waiver Wire Choices
Shane Baz, Tampa Bay Rays
Yahoo: 41%; ESPN: 11%
Though he's pitched to mixed results since returning from Tommy John surgery, Baz has looked solid overall. Though he initially struggled with command, it's gradually improved. On top of that, Baz is coming off perhaps his best start of the year (7 IP, 7H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO vs. the Astros).
Baz's matchups aren't ideal, but he could certainly make the best of them. He'll make both starts on the road. One against the A's; the other against the Dodgers. Regardless, if he continues to trend in the right direction, it could be a big week for him.

Martin Perez, San Diego Padres
Yahoo: 21%; ESPN: 9%
Perez has been solid since he was traded to San Diego. Through 18 1/3 innings, he's posted a 1.96 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and 21:3 K/BB. Though it's come against three struggling lineups (Colorado, Miami, and Pittsburg), he's still looked rather sharp.
Perez will make two starts at home next week, taking on the Twins and Mets. Keep in mind, however, that both of those teams are top-11 in OPS against lefties and OPS on the road. Despite that, Perez will have a strong week if he can stay hot.
Martín Pérez struck out 8 Pirates in 5.1 IP, and he has totally revamped his usage on San Diego. He greatly increased his Curveball usage while trimming down his sinker.

Next-Best Waiver Wire Choice
Alex Cobb, Cleveland Guardians
Yahoo: 10%; ESPN: 2%
Cobb has only made two starts this year, but the most recent one against the Marlins was impressive (5 2/3 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K). Next week, he'll take on the Yankees in New York, followed by the Rangers in Cleveland. If his most recent start is any indication of how he's trending, he could do really well in Week 22.

Deeper Waiver Wire Choice
Edward Cabrera, Miami Marlins
Yahoo: 17%; ESPN: 5%
As usual, Cabrera is the epitome of a high-risk high-reward. In his last start, he gave up six runs in four innings. In the two starts before that, he combined for 12 shutout innings and 12 strikeouts.
There's no way around it; you never know what you'll get with Cabrera. Next week, he'll make two starts at home against the Diamondbacks and Cubs. If you're willing to take the risk, the payoff could be really nice.
