Fantasy Baseball Trade Targets - Buy/Sell for Week 5 (2025)

Sandy Alcantara - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Fantasy baseball trade candidates to buy/sell for Week 5 (2025). Joey's fantasy baseball undervalued players to target in trades, and overvalued to trade away.

There's no doubt that trading in your league is not easy. Every fantasy manager values their players highly, which leads to many failed trade negotiations. However, at this point in the season, everyone should be trying to upgrade their team via trades.

In this article, we will go through five players fantasy managers should be looking to buy/sell ahead of Week 5 (April 28 to May 4) of the fantasy baseball season. The buy options on this list are players who have not been strong fantasy options over the past few weeks but are expected to improve soon. The sell options are players overvalued in all fantasy leagues heading into next week.

So, which players should we buy and sell for Week 5 of the 2025 fantasy baseball season? Let's dive in and find out which players make the list.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Undervalued Fantasy Baseball Players to Trade For

Sandy Alcantara, SP, Miami Marlins

After dominating in the spring, Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara flew up draft boards before the season. The right-hander didn't allow a run across 9 1/3 innings pitched in his five spring training outings. Nonetheless, Alcantara has struggled in his first five starts in the regular season. The 29-year-old currently owns a 6.56 ERA and has allowed at least three runs in three straight starts.

The start of Alcantara's season has not gone to plan. The strikeouts aren't there, and he only lasted two IP in his worst start of the season last week against the Philadelphia Phillies. In that outing, the former National League Cy Young gave six earned runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout. Those two innings pitched marked his shortest start in a game since May 14, 2021.

It's not a shock to see Alcantara struggle a bit to begin the season, considering he missed the entire 2024 campaign due to Tommy John surgery. As a result, fantasy managers should be patient with him for the time being. His stuff isn't quite there yet, and opposing hitters have an expected .270 batting average against him in the early going.

However, the Marlins pitcher is someone fantasy managers should be actively looking to trade for. It was always going to take Alcantara some time to get back into a rhythm on the mound, and the best is undoubtedly ahead of him. With no inning restrictions to start the season, the right-hander could easily return to that Cy Young form by the summer.

Brandon Nimmo, OF, New York Mets

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo has not gotten off to a great start in 2025. He is currently hitting .196 with four home runs, three doubles, and 10 RBI across his first 24 games. More importantly, some of Nimmo's metrics aren't an encouraging sign for him moving forward. His expected batting average (.246), launch angle sweet-spot rate (29.7 percent), and walk rate (seven percent) all rank poorly.

Nevertheless, Nimmo is a fantastic buy-low target heading into Week 5. He has hit fourth in New York's lineup in 17 of 24 games this season, and it's only a matter of time until his bat heats up. Hitting in front of Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso should lead to many RBI chances for the 32-year-old.

Therefore, fantasy managers should be trying to make a move for him. Nimmo has played in at least 150 games in three straight years and just totaled 23 home runs, 90 RBI, and 15 stolen bases for the Mets last season. With the lefty carrying a 54.1 percent hard-hit rate to open the 2025 campaign, his overall numbers will improve in the coming weeks.

Jordan Westburg, 2B/3B, Baltimore Orioles

After the first weekend of the season, Baltimore Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg was looking like a steal at his preseason ADP. The 26-year-old had seven hits in his first 17 at-bats (.412 batting average) with three home runs, three RBI, and two walks across four games. Since then, though, Westburg hasn't made much of an impact at the plate.

He has just nine hits over his last 66 at-bats (.136 batting average) to go with one home run, two RBI, and a whopping 17 strikeouts. This cold stretch has dropped Westburg's season average to .193, and he hasn't been a strong fantasy option over the last few weeks. Despite this, the Orioles infielder is someone fantasy managers should be looking to buy.

It was only one season ago that Westburg was an All-Star behind an 18-home run, 63-RBI, six-stolen base campaign. There are also some encouraging signs from the young infielder that his bat will start to get going. His barrel rate (14.8 percent), expected slugging (.490), and chase rate (21.5 percent) all rank in the upper half of the league to begin the season.

As a result, Westburg should be bought in most fantasy leagues right now. He has the potential to hit over 20 home runs while driving in upward of 70 runs in 2025.

Overvalued Fantasy Baseball Players to Trade Away

Andrew Heaney, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates

Pittsburgh Pirates starter Andrew Heaney has been arguably the biggest pitcher surprise in the early going. He currently owns a 1.72 ERA with 31 strikeouts across his first five starts, which included dominant outings against the New York Yankees, Washington Nationals, and Los Angeles Angels. In that start against the Angels on April 23, the southpaw threw six shutout innings with nine strikeouts.

However, those performances won't last all season for the left-hander. He has finished with a 4.10 ERA in six of the past seven seasons and has totaled under 160 strikeouts in consecutive years. Therefore, fantasy managers should use Heaney's strong start and try to sell him before Week 5.

The veteran's numbers will eventually even out, making this the perfect time to sell him. With starts against the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres upcoming in Week 5, we could see Heaney struggle against those top offenses. So, it would be wise to see what you can get for a pitcher who has thrown less than 150 innings in five of the past six seasons.

Dylan Moore, 1B/2B/3B/SS/OF, Seattle Mariners

Seattle Mariners utility specialist Dylan Moore has seen his rostership climb over the past few weeks, thanks to his blistering offensive start. Moore is currently hitting .288 with five home runs, eight RBI, and five stolen bases across his first 22 games. Given his ability to play multiple positions, the 32-year-old is extremely valuable in every fantasy format.

However, it remains to be seen whether Moore can maintain this pace for the rest of the year. He hit a combined .206 across his first six major league seasons (2019 to 2024) and only totaled 52 home runs during those six years. As a result, the veteran is a perfect sell-high candidate at this point. His average exit velocity (86.1 mph), hard-hit rate (40.8 percent), and squared-up rate (23.7 percent) all rank extremely poor.

So, it's hard to imagine the 32-year-old being a strong fantasy option for the rest of the season. If you're in need of some steals in Roto leagues, then Moore could be a fine hold. He stole 32 bases a year ago. However, he is the perfect candidate to sell heading into Week 5 because his early-season numbers are not sustainable
