Fantasy Baseball Advice: Mid-Week 13 Waiver Wire Review

RotoBaller writer Chris Lacey highlights a handful of players on most of your waiver wires to keep track of.  You can find all these players and recommendations, along with many more, in our Daily Updated Waiver Wire Watch List.

STANDARD MIXED-LEAGUE VIABLE ADDS

• Wil Myers (OF, TB) Myers finally got a chance to show why he is billed as a top prospect, and he is relishing in his opportunity to play. He hit two home runs in three games earlier in the week, to go along with seven RBI, and he has notched a near-.300 BA in his limited time so far. The sample size is small, but he could be a great power hitter for the Rays, and also an impact fantasy pickup.

• Jarrod Parker (SP, OAK) Parker does have a high ERA at 4.26, but he has been pitching much better games for the Athletics of late. Across his last four starts, Parker has gone 29 innings and given up a total of nine runs. He has not given up more than three runs in a start since May 6, and he is holding right-handed hitters to a .241 average on the season. Parker would make a great addition to a shallow-league team in need of reliable pitcher.

• Gerardo Parra (OF, ARI) Parra is having a great season for Arizona, hitting .315 on the year; he is second in the NL with 94 hits, and also second in doubles with 24. He is also surprisingly showing some power/speed combo with seven HR and six swiped bags on the season-- he could be a 20-20 guy before all is said and done this year.  Parra is heating up recently, too, going .375 with an OPS of 1.257 over the last week.

• Nick Franklin (2B/SS, SEA) Franklin is the future at second base for Seattle and has showcased his power while playing stellar defense. He has 4 HR and 13 RBI in 92 AB this season, slashing .283/.359/.848 so far on the year. Franklin is a switch-hitter, but be aware that he hits lefties better than righties with a .292 average and a .901 OPS against southpaws.

DEEP-LEAGUE ADDS

• Marcell Ozuna (OF, MIA) Ozuna is proving to be a good young player for the Marlins with a .294 average and 15 doubles. He would a great pickup for a deeper-league team that needs an outfielder.  Ozuna will give you a serviceable average and some power and run-producing upside. He is hitting lefties very well, as indicated by his .354 average, but he struggles a little bit against right-handers with a BA more than 75 points lower.

CONTINUE SCOUTING

• Nathan Eovaldi (SP, MIA) One of the main pieces coming back to the Marlins in the Hanley Ramirez trade last season, Eovaldi has looked good in his two starts since returning from the DL. He has struck out 10 batters and only walked three, showing good control and command of all his pitches. The opposition is only hitting .171 against him on the season in a fairly small sample, and he is holding righties to a .200 batting average. He could be a solid st reaming option going forward with the right matchups.
• Trevor Rosenthal (RP, STL) Rosenthal has been tagged the "closer of the future" in St. Louis, and with his 100-mph fastball, it's easy to see why. He has a pitched to a 1.89 ERA on the season with 54 K in 38 innings (filthy!), and has shown good command of his pitches by only walking eight batters, good for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 6.75.  The odd thing about him is that right-handers hit him better than lefties, as indicated by the .274 average from righties while lefties are hitting just .186.  If Edward Mujica falters in the second half, look for Rosenthal to get a chance in the ninth.  If given an opportunity, it's likely Rosenthal will not relinquish the role for quit a while.
