Fantasy Baseball Advice: Mid-Week 11 Waiver Wire Review

By Keith Allison on Flickr (Originally posted to Flickr as "Kenley Jansen") [CC-BY-SA-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

RotoBaller writer Chris Lacey highlights a handful of players on most of your waiver wires to keep track of.  You can find all these players and recommendations, along with many more, in our Daily Updated Waiver Wire Watch List.

STANDARD MIXED-LEAGUE VIABLE ADDS

Kenley Jansen on April 19, 2013Kenley Jansen (RP, LAD) - With Brandon League blowing his fourth save, it was only a matter of time until the Dodgers made a change. Jansen has been terrific in the eighth inning this season. He has struck out 46 batters in only 33 innings pitched, and he has a sparkling 0.95 WHIP to go with 12.5 K/9. Nasty.

Adam Lind (1B, TOR) - Lind is on fire this season with a .344/.418/.958 triple-slash and is producing for the Blue Jays in big way. The power is not there with only 6 HR and just 18 RBI, but he is proving to be a consistent hitter. He could be useful if you need some not-quite-empty short-term batting average help.

Dan Uggla (2B, ATL) - Uggla won’t be winning a batting title anytime soon with his .191 BA. However, he consistently puts up great power numbers, as indicated by his 13 HR and 27 RBI thus far. The main concern here is the startling 82 strikeouts already this season. He is pretty much a two-true outcomes guy, very all-or-nothing at this point in his career.  If you can afford the BA hit, go ahead and take those home runs to the bank.

DEEP-LEAGUE ADDS

Jim Henderson (RP, MIL) -  Henderson has been the only pitcher capable of getting the opposition out in the Brewers bullpen. He has nine saves on the year, with a 1.66 ERA and a WHIP of 0.87. If you need a solid closer, Henderson is your guy (for now).  Beware that the Brewers are probably going to try to get K-Rod to 300 saves and showcase his talents for a possible trade, so don't go crazy if you see Henderson miss an opportunity.

Will Venable (OF, SD) - With Cameron Maybin hitting the shelf for another six weeks, you could look to San Diego center fielder Will Venable for an intriguing power/speed combo.  He's got 8 HR and 9 SB so far in 167 AB for the Padres, and though he's the kind of player you want to play matchups with, as he struggles (and often sits) against lefties, nevertheless Venable is definitely someone to consider for outfield help in deep leagues.

Colby Rasmus (OF, TOR) - Rasmus just might be turning his season around with five hits in last four games, and has increased his batting average to .254. He also represents a good source of power if your team needs it with 10 HR and 30 RBI.

CONTINUE SCOUTING

Charles Brewer (SP, ARI) - Brewer is a recent call-up to the Diamondbacks with Matt Reynolds going on the DL. He had a 5.85 ERA for Triple-A Reno, but don’t let that scare you. As with most pitchers in the PCL, he felt the impact of the small ballparks, dry air and high altitude. He threw 1.2 innings in his season debut and allowed no runs, while escaping a bases-loaded, no outs situation.

Mitch Moreland (1B, TEX) - Moreland is having a career year for the Rangers with his .288/.338/.899 triple-slash. The concern about him is that he is hitting .268 on the road, as opposed to .321 at home. I would sit him when Texas is on the road, but he should be in your starting line up when the Rangers are home.
