Each Monday I'll be bringing you the best and worst starting pitcher values on Fanduel. One DFS Sleeper and overrated pitcher that you shouldn't touch. Here we go!
Best Value
Alex Cobb TBR ($7,600) - After a very poor three-start stretch from late May to early June, in which Cobb went 0-3 with a dreadful 9.39 ERA, the price to roster the Rays’ right-hander in daily salary cap leagues was driven down significantly. Even with back-to-back brilliant outings, he can still be picked up at surprisingly low cost. Cobb has allowed just one earned run on seven hits while posting a 17-to-6 K/BB ratio across his last 13.1 innings.
The Pirates will visit Tampa’s Tropicana Field Monday evening; a pitcher-friendly park in which Cobb sports a 3.30 ERA and has held the opposition to a meager .626 OPS across 35 career starts in front of the home crowd. The Buccos come into the interleague contest carrying a fairly pedestrian .386 SLG against right-handed pitching while striking out at a rate north of 20 percent. In addition, the Pittsburgh lineup has very little familiarity with Cobb, as just four players on the current roster have ever faced him and are a combined 3-for-16 versus the 26-year-old hurler.
Worst Value
Gio Gonzalez WSH ($8,200) - Following a month-long absence, Monday night’s start in Milwaukee will be just the second outing for Gonzalez since returning from left shoulder inflammation. His first, which came last Wednesday versus the Astros, was not an extremely inspiring effort, as the Nationals’ lefty surrendered four earned runs on five hits and three walks over five frames. On a positive note, Gonzalez did register a half-dozen punchouts against Houston’s free-swinging youngsters. However, the Brewers offense will pose a greater challenge.
The Brew Crew head into this matchup featuring a lineup loaded with right-handed power. Their 4.56 run per game average is second in the NL trailing only Colorado and scoring potential is only further enhanced when they are swinging the bats at home. Ranked as the major’s fifth best offensive atmosphere according to ParkFactors.com, Miller Park provides the Brewers’ sluggers with quite the environment to rack up staggering statistics at the plate, especially when squaring off with a pitcher coming back from shoulder issues and mired in a struggle to relocate his previous All-Star form.
