FanDuel Strategy Nuances (PGA DFS)
Before we dive into the FanDuel plays for this week, we are going to be comparing the prices of golfers on the FD slate to that of the DraftKings slate in order to figure out some value for the respective golfers. We get an extra $10,000 ($60,000 salary limit in FanDuel) to spend on the same six guys, so there is an opportunity to build some really optimal lineups if we find the right guys. The average increase per player should be $1,666.67 ($10,000/6).
We have tons of great weekly PGA articles, DFS analysis, tools, and DFS advice. Be sure to read our other fantastic articles regarding this week's event, including DFS lineup picks for DraftKings/FanDuel, betting advice, DFS prop picks, and course previews.
Below is the difference in salary between the two DFS platforms using the downloadable research station that is part of our affordable Premium Package. It has event history, recent form, DFS scoring upside, and a whole lot more nerdy stuff. This week we are using Birdies or Better Gained to filter on golfers we are targeting.
High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays
Jon Rahm ($12,100, $700 difference)
The World No. 1 ranks inside the top 25 in strokes gained off the tee, on approach and putting this season. His game is so well rounded and that is EXACTLY what is needed at a course like this. He is long but also accurate off the tee. He is very consistent with a long iron in his hands. His putting has been one of the best parts of his game this season and when he misses greens his chipping and bunker play puts his ball back into manageable par save range. So much to like and his price is reflective of that.
Patrick Cantlay ($11,300, $1,600 difference)
The reason we are going to roll the dice on Patty Ice is because he ranks inside the top 5 in SG OTT (4th), Bent 5-15 feet (2nd), Bogey Avoidance (1st) and Par 5 Scoring (1st - there are four Par 4s over 480 yards in addition to the pair of 600+ yard Par 5s). These are all key criteria I will be using to whittle down my player pool this week. His dominance on Bentgrass putting surfaces is something he will lean on mightily when having to sink his fair share of 5-15 foot par putts along with the rest of the field in some really difficult scoring conditions. His driver has been an absolute weapon lately, blending distance with accuracy in a stress-free way that will make it easier for him to hit enough greens in regulation to avoid running out of short game magic (which he has plenty of if need be) over the four days.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays
Mid-priced salary differences. Notice how much more red we see in that difference column in this range versus the high-priced range. Bear that in mind when deciding which players to play on either platform.
Jason Day ($9,900, $1,000 difference)
"With this week most likely seeing scores head into the -20 range over four rounds, you are going to need to hole a lot of putts. Of the top 5 highest priced golfers on the slate, Jason Day is the best putter on Bentgrass by a sizeable margin. On top of his stellar putting he has the ability to ball strike it with the best of them and as a result there is no surprise to see Jason Day on the heels of Scottie Scheffler when ranking golfers by Fantasy Points Gained recently." - Byron Nelson write up with the only difference in outlook this week being that he is now in the mid-priced range and not the high-priced range. Turn those birdie putts he couldn't miss into the multitude of par saves the field is going to have to make and Jason Day is right back in our player pool after a win last week. He has his 2nd best approach week of the season, by the way. #Trending
Shane Lowry ($9,500, $1,200)
Lowry does three things around this course really well. He drives the ball just shy of 300 yards on average while maintaining a 63% accuracy rate, which is a fantastic combo. If he does miss a fairway he is one of the better rough players in the field. And finally, when he misses a green more than usual on this tough course (along with the entire field this week) he is one of the best bunker players on tour. His putting is slightly below average on Bentgrass, but we will take that vs his bottom of the barrel performance on all surfaces.
Chris Kirk ($8,800, $1,800)
"Slow and steady wins the race" is the mantra I would associate with Kirk. His bogey avoidance rate is inside the top-30 in this field and his driving accuracy sits at about 62% recently which is appealing enough considering he also averages about 297 a drive. Kirk is in the upper third of performances when playing tough courses and finishes inside the top 50% of fantasy points 69% of his starts, sneaking inside the top 10% a quarter of the time. A lot to like from the Honda Classic winner this week.
Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players
The below golfers are all candidates to round out your player pool.
Brian Harman ($8,400, $1,600 increase)
Brian Harman possesses elite accuracy for somebody who still hits it about 296 yards off the tee. He has incredible touch out of the bunkers and which also explains his top 5 bogey avoidance rate. At a course that will require making a lot of pars, there is >clears throat< ... no Harm in playing Brian. He is affordably priced and will provide some of the best safety in this salary range.
Thomas Detry ($7,400, $1,100 increase)
We get a golfer who was leading through R3 on the DPWT just last week with an 81% top 50% rate in his PGA Tour starts this season. He is $7,900 on FanDuel which is a DK price I would have been okay paying for his ability to provide cut making ability with reasonable upside at a few hundred dollars shy of min price. This is one of my favorite plays in this range for sure.
