NHL is back! We have a nine-game slate to look at tonight and we are starting to get a few games into the season, so we should be able to start looking at some more stats soon. Personally, I like Corsi For, which is an advanced shot metric shot which can help identify offensive opportunity.
Vegas lines are big when it comes to picking games to target, and that's a good place to start for goalies. When it comes to skaters, goal totals is another main place to start. Usually, 5.5 goals are average, so targets game at six, and can look for goalies in games with a total at five.
In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 10/20/18. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom. Let's get to it, shall we?
DFS Forwards to Consider
Connor McDavid - C, EDM vs NSH (FD - $9,100, DK - $7,800)
When McDavid gets on a streak like he's on now, it'd be silly not to have him in some of your lineups. He has played five games this season and has multiple points in four of those games, which is simply just unbelievable. The floor he has is super strong, while the ceiling he brings is massive due to his goal upside. I would lock him into cash games and move on from there.
Artemi Panarin - W, CLS vs CHI (FD - $7,800, DK - $7,100)
Love getting the bread man into my lineups since he is up on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, so plenty of ice time for him to rack up some points. Panarin is also up against his former team tonight, so if you want to buy into some revenge narrative, go for it. The Blackhawks have been terrible on defense this season and we should be in for a high scoring game as the over-under is set at six.
DFS Defenders to Consider
Dennis Cholowski - D, DET @ FLA (FD - $3,700, DK - $3,900)
The Red Wings aren't a good team and they are a bit thin at defense right now, but Cholowski is cheap and he is seeing time on the top defensive pairing and the second power-play unit. He's averaging over two blocked shots and two shots per game, so a solid floor of points, better for cash games.
Roman Josi - D, NSH @ EDM (FD - $5,800, DK - $5,300)
Josi is one of the best defenders anytime he is on the slate and should be solid for both cash games and GPPs. He plays a ton of minutes and averages over three shots per game to start the season, which gives him a floor of points, while him being on the second power-play unit gives him a nice ceiling.
DFS Goalies to Consider
Craig Anderson - G, OTT vs MON (FD - $7,500, DK - $7,100)
Anderson is a bit of a cheaper option at goalie and makes a solid GPP play on tonight's slate. He is a home underdog at +100 but should be seeing a ton of shots in this matchup. He has only allowed two total goals in his last two starts combined, but still doesn't make a safe option by any means.
