We're working with another two-game slate here, but these games both have totals exceeding 55. ULM and Texas State will square off in what will be one of the more exciting games of the weekend. Syracuse and NC State should be exciting as well, with two offenses that can score the ball.
Let's dive in and find a couple of top plays at each position!
In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy college football lineup picks for the early slate of games on FanDuel and DraftKings on 10/4/19. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays.
It's an extremely fun slate ahead of us, with more than enough offense to go around. I'll be breaking down the later slate in a different article, so make sure to keep an eye out for that as well. Let's dive into some of the top plays at each position. You can follow me on Twitter @VarneyDFS. I will be around all day to answer questions.
FanDuel, DraftKings DFS Quarterbacks
Caleb Evans - Louisiana-Monroe - FD $10,500 DK $7,600
This offense starts and finishes with Caleb Evans. He’s a true dual-threat QB as someone who throws the ball 30+ times and runs it 15+ a game. He’s also who the call on by the goal line, with five rushing touchdowns in as many games. This is the weakest defense ULM has faced and I expect them to put up points. This offense put up 44 points against FSU and 32 against a very tough Memphis defense. Evans is a must for me in all formats and I can see 30+ fantasy points easily.
Tommy DeVito - Syracuse - FD $9,200 DK $7,100
We only have four quarterbacks on this slate to choose from. Caleb Evans is my top choice and it’s frankly not close. With that being said, Tommy DeVito is looking healthy and he’s been great under center this year. NC State is favored over Syracuse, so DeVito should be throwing against an NC State pass defense that has allowed 300+ passing yards multiple times already this season. DeVito has a couple of weapons on the outside to pair him with and three touchdowns wouldn’t be crazy.
Also Consider - Bailey Hockman
FanDuel, DraftKings DFS Running Backs
Caleb Twyford - Texas State - FD $8,200 DK $5,400
Twyford is listed as a wide receiver on DraftKings, but he’s been the starting running back since Texas State played SMU. He’s still running routes, though, so the upside is huge. He’s gotten 17+ carries in two-plus games and has 15 fantasy points in four straight games. This game between Texas State and Lousiana-Monroe is going to be the higher-scoring affair of the two and Twyford is the number one weapon on this Texas State team. He’s going to touch the ball at least 20 times and you won’t find a lineup of mine without them.
Jordan Houston - NC State - FD $6,900 DK $4,600
With Ricky Person out, it’s going to be Jordan Houston and Zonovan Knight to get carries for the NC State Wolfpack. Knight has already had a lot of opportunities to impress and hasn’t. Houston on the other hand, ran for six yards per carry last game and showed a ton of upside. He’s my pick as I think he can get to 75 yards and a score on 15 touches. N.C. State is a four-point favorite in this game as well, and starting their backup QB, so they’ll want to keep it pounding on the ground as long as possible Houston is my favorite of the two and I won’t have any exposure to Knight, who’s a much worse overall runner.
Also Consider - Josh Johnson, Zonovan Knight
FanDuel, DraftKings DFS Wide Receivers
Josh Pederson - Louisiana-Monroe - FD $8,400 DK $6,800
Josh Pederson is the best and most consistent WR option on this slate, right next to Trishton Jackson of Syracuse. Pederson is a 6-foot-5 tight end that has miraculous hands and can run routes. The Texas State defense will have no answers and 7-10 catches for 100 yards is a comfortable bet. He should find the end zone as well, seeing nearly 60% of targets inside the five-yard line. Pairing Evans and Pederson is where I’ll be in cash games.
Trishton Jackson - Syracuse - FD $9,600 DK $7,300
Salary is my much of a deterrent on this slate, and Trishton Jackson is s guy with more upside than anyone at the position. There’s a reason he’s so expensive, totaling 100+ yards in tow his last four games and scoring five touchdowns in the last four games. Tommy DeVito is going to throw another 10+ balls his way and the NC State passing defense is nothing to be worried about. Taj Harris is a lot cheaper and had a better game last time out, but that won’t continue here. Expect Jackson to return to his WR1 status and possibly be a must-own in tournaments.
Tabari Hines - NC State - FD $7,100 DK $4,400
Tabari Hines caught six balls last week and was used as he should be, a short-to-gain target that can catch everything and has upside with YAC (yards after catch). This Syracuse defense is terrible and I wouldn't be surprised to see Hockman throw for 250 yards at home. They're four-point favorites and should be able to move the ball consistently. Hines is an easy target for the new starting QB in Bailey Hockman and he seemed to hone in on Hines a bit. His price is low and I like him in both sites.
Also Consider - Taj Harris, Hutch White, Markis McCray
