FanDuel DFS – MLB Lineup Picks, Sleepers and Advice for 8/31/15

Welcome to the final frontier of August 2015. It's pretty remarkable how fast the season has flown by, but here we are, on the brink of 40-man roster time. Let's close out the month on a high note, shall we? We've got a beautiful 12-game slate scheduled, with first pitch at 7:00 EDT.

Editor’s Note: We have some awesome rest of season MLB DFS Services Premium Lineup Picks deals, that include all of our Premium DFS lineup picks, analysis and also exclusive access to all our other Premium tools, apps and resources. Get MLB DFS Premium and get an edge!

Offenses to Target for FanDuel Stacking

At this point in the season - or any, for that matter - I shouldn't have to mention the Diamondbacks and Rockies as good stacking options tonight, seeing as they're facing off in the razor-thin air that surrounds Coors Field. Below are a few other stacks I'm targeting this evening.

Cubs left-handed batters versus Michael Lorenzen

To say that left-handed hitters own Mr. Lorenzen would be putting it way too politely. Plain and simple, Cubs hitters should have a field day (appropriate after having a pajama party last night) with Lorenzen at Wrigley, especially since they usually march out five or six lefties in the first two-thirds of their order. Lorenzen allows a HR/FB percentage of over 15 percent for both righties and lefties, but the slash line lefties have produced in 2015 is something to behold: .326/.446/.594 with a .440 wOBA and 1.89 HR/9 to boot. I'm going to be targeting Dexter Fowler, Anthony Rizzo and well rested Chris Coghlan and Kyle Schwarber.

Mets left-handed batters versus Jerad Eickhoff

I don't have as much juicy data to make a case for the Mets as I did with the Cubs against Lorenzen, but I'm still pretty confident the Mets lefties and top/middle of their order can do damage. The over/under for this game is just 7.5, but the Mets are heavy favorites (-210) without even having one of their three power-pitching studs on the bump. Eickhoff only has a few major league starts under his belt and projects as a back-end starter and owns only a 30% ground ball rate. In a small sample, lefties have slashed .353/.389/.529 with a .392 wOBA. His low ERA (2.25 ERA) should keep a lot of DFS'ers off the Mets stack, though Eickhoff's 3.84 xFIP is more telling of his actual performance.

Honorable Mention:  Red Sox versus Ivan Nova

DFS Starting Pitchers to Consider for FanDuel Cash Games

Dallas Keuchel (SP, HOU) - $11,200

Keuchel may not possess the strikeout ceiling that the likes of Archer and Price possess, but I still think the matchup he has in front of him tonight is a safer one than those in Toronto (Price) and Baltimore (Archer). Keuchel's over 7.7 strikeouts per nine is solid, and he faces a time striking out in more than in over 24% of their at-bats against LHP. The Mariners .279 wOBA against lefties is pretty weak as well, and both Price and Archer faces teams with higher wOBAs and in better hitter's parks this evening. Over his past three starts, Keuchel is 2-1 with a 1.88 ERA and 1.05 WHIP.

Honorable Mention: John Lackey (SP, STL) - $9,000

DFS Starting Pitchers to Consider for FanDuel Tournaments

Hector Santiago (SP, LAA) - $7,600

He is still a bit prone to giving up the long ball, but I do like the fact he faces Oakland tonight in a pitcher-friendly park. Santiago possesses the strikeout upside you look for - or need, rather - in a tournament starter and Athletics are striking out in 23% of their at-bats against lefties.

Honorable Mention: Chris Narveson (SP, MIA) - $4,400

An incredible amount of risk with a guy like Narveson, but what an opportunity. He has strikeout stuff and at that price, you can load up on studs at every position.

DFS Infielders to Consider for FanDuel

Blake Swihart (C, BOS) - $3,100

Catcher feels like the only position where the options tonight leave a little something to be desired. There are a couple nice dong candidates of the boom-or-bust variety, but none project as very strong options for cash games. Still, if I'm rostering a cash team tonight, I'm going with Swihart. Ivan Nova has looked like hot garbage his last few starts and Swihart has really been heating up. He's moved up to sixth in the order and has a fairly strong .338 wOBA against right-handed pitching in 2015.

Yasmani Grandal (C, LAD) - $2,400

He hasn't been playing particularly well of late, and the price reflects that, but I still think he's one of the better tournament options. Peavy doesn't scare me much and Grandal has particularly strong wOBA (.393) and ISO (.243) against RHP this season.

David Ortiz (1B, BOS) - $4,200

The price tag is a bit high tonight, but for good reason. He's still priced comfortably below the likes of Goldschmidt, who you really shouldn't be paying up for this evening considering his splits that suggest only reaching deep into your pockets when Goldy faces a southpaw. Ortiz and his .409 wOBA and .570 slugging percentage off RHP should tee off on the likes of Nova.

Jose Altuve (2B, HOU) - $3,600

Altuve is without a doubt my top option at second base this evening. He's got green lights across the board with facing a weak starter, strong splits against lefties, hitting from the leadoff spot and his .421 wOBA and .542 slugging percentage aint too bad, either. Jose averages a steal in just a fraction over 28% of his games, so don't be surprised to see him active and aggressive on the base paths tonight.

Alex Rodriguez (3B, NYY) -$3,500

I was pretty shocked to see A-Rod below 4K this evening, but I wont be penning a letter to FanDuel's odds makers complaining about it. Rodriguez has a knack for owning the Sox at Fenway and his splits suggest Eduardo Rodriguez has his hands full tonight. His .324 ISO mark against southpaws this season is incredible and makes him a strong option in cash and tournaments with such a low price tag.

Derek Dietrich (3B, MIA) - $2,800

If you need to save a few dollars on your infield roster construction, Dietrich is a nice below 3K play. He hits in the middle of an order that should frustrate Foltynewicz and he's a career .452 slugger against RHP, coming in hot with a .667 slugging mark over the past two weeks.

Marwin Gonzalez (SS, HOU) - $2,200

Marwin Gonzalez?!? Trust me, I had the same thought. But take a look at the options at shortstop tonight and try to find someone who could possibly have more value than Gonzalez tonight. Price wise, Correa and Jose Reyes are the "top" options, but Correa has been held out of the lineup for four days with a thumb injury and even at Coors, over 4K for Reyes is too high a price to pay for a player that doesn't have the power upside. Marwin should get a bump up in the order, has good splits and faces a weak opposing starter.

DFS Outfielders to Consider for FanDuel

Kyle Schwaber (OF, CHC) - $4,100

I love me a well-rested War Bear facing a terrible right-handed pitcher in Wrigley. Schwarber not only has great lineup positioning, he has been terrorizing RHP all season with the likes of a .485 wOBA, .379 ISO and .716 slugging percentage.

Ender Inciarte (OF, ARI) - $3,800

Inciarte under 4K at Coors? Don't mind if I do. Ender is a much better hitter against righties than lefties and he faces righty Chad Bettis tonight in Denver.

Chris Young (OF, NYY) - $3,200

Young makes for a nice tournament option this evening as he faces a lefty in a very friendly power park at Fenway. He is the owner of a .289 ISO and .603 slugging percentage against southpaws in 2015.

Michael Conforto (OF, NYM) - $2,800

Like Young, Conforto is a nice tournament option tonight as he's got great power numbers against right-handed pitching. He also plays well as part of a LHB or middle of the order Mets stack, too.

2025 Second-Year Breakouts: Sophomores Who Could Shine In Year Two
