Daily fantasy baseball leagues (DFS) are becoming the thing to do, and here at RotoBaller we are excited to help our users build their bankrolls. I’ll be covering FanDuel lineup picks, sleepers and general advice every Saturday and Sunday. I’ll also be putting my money where my mouth is by entering my final lineup (at the bottom of the article) into one of FanDuel’s many daily fantasy contests, so that RotoBaller users can compete against me.
My goal with these DFS picks, as always, is to try to choose players who will outperform their expectations. These players can be high-cost players, or they can be sleepers, but we are always looking for players that have a chance to return the greatest value. Additionally, since the weekends generally have many afternoon and night games, I’ll make an effort to distribute my picks to cover all the timeslots going forward so that if you are playing an afternoon/night only league this article will still be useful. So, without further ado, my picks for Sunday April 12th.
Editor’s Note: RotoBaller’s Premium DFS Lineup Picks & Tools help you get an edge for your FanDuel lineups with exclusive access to DFS tools and expert lineup picks. Also our DFS batters vs. pitchers tool helps you analyze today’s matchups and make optimal lineup decisions.
Offense to Target for FanDuel DFS
Colorado Rockies – Any time the Rockies are at home they are a team you need to use to stack your lineup. They have the #1 home hitting ballpark and almost all of their everyday players have huge home/road splits. Expect all of the everyday players to have a big day.
Chicago Cubs - The Cubs bats came alive yesterday and it's no surprise that they happen to be in Colorado. See above for why you should stack your Cubbies this afternoon.
DFS Starting Pitchers To Consider for FanDuel
Felix Hernandex (SP, SEA) – $11,400
King Felix just doesn't throw bad games. Add in the fact that he's pitching in one of the 10 best pitcher's parks in the league and you have a perfect situation for him to have a monster game against the Oakland Athletics. Brett Lawrie struck out four times on twelve pitches earlier this week, how many times is Hernandez going to get him today?
Nate Karns (SP, TAM) – $6,000
I started Karns earlier this week against Baltimore and it resulted in six earned runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. I'm going back to the well because I trust his stuff and he's in Miami today. It's a pitcher's park where fly balls go to die. Karns gave up a home run in his first start, but that won't happen today. If you want to go cheap at pitcher give him a look.
DFS Infielders To Consider for FanDuel
Adrian Gonzalez (1B, LAD) – $5,300
Nothing to see here, still the hottest hitter in baseball.
Neil Walker (2B, PIT) – $3,600
Walker is just a professional hitter sporting a .273 career batting average and providing some pop in the middle of the diamond. He goes up against Kyle Lohse today, a pitcher whom he hits to the tune of a .333 AVG with a home run and 9 RBI in 33 career AB. Teammate Andrew McCutchen also hits Lohse well as do several other Pirates, so expect Walker to get on base and his teammates to knock him in.
DFS Outfielders To Consider for FanDuel
Andrew McCutchen (OF, PIT) – $4,700
What is there to say. McCutchen was the MVP of the league two years ago and then when out last season and put up better numbers last season sporting a .314 AVG with 25 HR. He may better those numbers yet again this year, and today should help out. As mentioned above, he hits very well against Kyle Lohse, batting .317 with 2 home runs over 41 career at-bats.
Alex Rios (OF, KC) – $3,300
Rios had a down season last year only hitting 4 home runs, but he already has one this season and he just looks much more comfortable at the plate. Rios, a career .278 hitter, bats 11 points better against lefties and he happens to run into one of his favorite lefties today, CJ Wilson. In 21 career at-bats, Rios is hitting a scorching .381 with two home runs. The power has slipped from his 20 HR days, but Rios still possesses the speed to swipe a bag (he has two this year). Expect him to get on base and be ready to run for the small-ball Royals.
FanDuel Sleeper Value of the Day
Daniel Nava (OF, BOS) – $2,500
Nava is coming off a huge day in the Bronx, gathering two hits (one for a double) and two RBI in the Red Sox win over the Yankees on Saturday. Expect more of the same from him going up against Mashahiro Tanaka. Tanaka got hit around in his first start against the Jays and Nava is 2-6 in his career against the righty. Nava has always been a good on-base guy, sporting a .364 career OBP. He'll get on and the rest of the Sox lineup will knock him in today.
