Daily Fantasy Leagues - Fanduel Lineup Picks (6/18)
Jake Arrieta SP / CHC ($5,800) - Wednesday’s best bargains over on FanDuel, as you might expect, feature a certain midday flavor. Arrieta will toe the rubber for an early afternoon effort at Marlins Park, taking on an offense that he completely dominated over six shutout frames just 10 days ago in Chicago. In fact, the Cubs right-hander is currently riding a scoreless streak of 16.2 innings and holds an outstanding 0.51 ERA across three starts this month.
As the Marlins lineup goes to work without the services of both Christian Yelich (back) and Jarrod Saltalamacchia (concussion), the healthy Miami regulars hold a combined .174 batting average (4-for-23) against Arrieta. In addition, the Fish as a team strike out at a rate of nearly 24% versus right-handed hurlers, a stat which bodes well for Arrieta's 9.2 K/9 on the season.
Derek Jeter SS / NYY ($2,600) - Though he is hitting for virtually no power so far this season, Jeter was singing his swan song in perfect pitch over the last week. The Yankee Captain will head into Wednesday’s bout with Jays veteran southpaw Mark Buehrle swinging a very hot bat, as he has hit at a .444 clip over his last seven games. Granted, Buehrle is having an exceptional 2014 campaign for Toronto, but Jeter has rocked the veteran southpaw to the tune of a .911 OPS in 38 at-bats.
Chris Johnson 3B / ATL ($2,700) - Hitting just .251 going into play back on June 9th, Johnson has lagged quite a bit behind his breakout form from 2013 for most of this season. However, the Braves third baseman has finally caught fire over the last nine games, putting together a half-dozen multi-hit performances and raising his average up to .275 by going 16-for-38 at the dish during that stretch. Johnson has never before stepped into the box versus Roberto Hernandez, but given the struggles of the Philly right-hander this month, the opportunity is there for a big game.
Joe Mauer 1B / MIN ($2,300) - How often does the chance to roster a three-time batting champion at such a cheap price present itself? So far this season, Mauer has not swung the bat at anywhere near the level of consistency to which we've become accustomed, but the perennial All Star seems to be kicking things into gear by posting a .370 OBP over the last six games. One important note on Wednesday’s matchup: Mauer holds a very strong .567 slugging percentage with a couple of homers in 31 previous plate appearances against Red Sox starter John Lackey.
