ANALYSIS: The New England Patriots have potentially hit rock bottom after a 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany on Sunday morning. Between the eventual benching of QB Mac Jones, to a fake-spike turned game-losing interception by QB Bailey Zappe, there are a lot more questions surrounding New England than we have answers.
But while the uncertainty of the QB position in Foxborough remains unclear, what has become apparent is New England’s necessity to turn their run game into the focal point of their offense moving forward.
As they look to emphasize their run game, it will be RB Ezekiel Elliott who will likely increase his touches in the process. Elliott saw 13 carries for 54 yards in Sunday’s loss, as well as two receptions for an additional 34 yards through the air.
Elliott remains to play behind starting RB Rhamondre Stevenson, who has had a solid stretch of fantasy performances himself. Yet over the last three games, Elliott has increased his opportunities in every game. A good sign for his usage to continue to uptick moving forward when the Patriots return from their Week 11 bye.
On top of his volume trending in the right direction, Elliott is seeing useful red zone usage. On runs inside of the 15-yard line this season, Elliott has eight carries to Stevenson’s seven. As we know from his years with the Cowboys, the former Ohio State Buckeye is one of the best goal-line backs we've seen in recent memory.
Now would be the time to buy stock in the former two-time rushing champion. The Patriots are off in Week 11 but have a very favorable matchup when they visit the New York Giants in Week 12. The Giants have allowed the eighth most rushing yards in the league, as well as the 10th most points to opposing fantasy running backs.
