BALLER MOVE: Add in 14-team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 9% of leagues
ANALYSIS: With a flurry of offseason moves, the Houston Rockets have declared that the rebuild is well and truly underway. They drafted four players in the first round of the NBA draft and told John Wall to rest up for an eventual mid-season trade. However, that still leaves room on the roster for a veteran presence. Outside of Jalen Green, Jae'Sean Tate, Christian Wood, and Kevin Porter Jr., there aren't a lot of locked-in minutes for this rotation. Through the first two games of the season, Eric Gordon is making his case to be one of those players getting those leftover chances.
The veteran shooting guard seems to have the green light from the coaching staff to fire at will. In the season-opener versus the Timberwolves, Gordon played 23 minutes, hitting six of his eight shots (3-for-4 from three) for 15 points. He followed that up with 22 points in 26 minutes against the Thunder, going 7-for-14 from the field and draining four of six three-point attempts. Of course, he's not adding anything outside of points and three-pointers, but Gordon is widely available to help in those categories if you find your squad short on those after the first week.
Gordon's appeal in 14-team leagues will remain as long as his tenure in Houston lasts. Eventually, he will be traded to a contending team in need of a three-point shooter. Still, showcasing Gordon is good for the franchise's long-term future, and I expect them to continue rolling him out there until the phone starts ringing. He's the longest-tenured Rocket on the roster right now, and he's going to continue putting up points and threes for your fantasy roster until you get that trade notification.
