Welcome back, RotoBallers! This is an odd weekend schedule-wise in the EPL. With a handful of FA Cup games taking place this weekend as well, some EPL games have been postponed. That leaves us with two single-game slates Saturday. The first game kicks off early Saturday morning, but if you aren't an early riser, you can have a chance at some DFS soccer with the late game. I will be breaking down that game in full for you here. Keep reading this breakdown for my DFS soccer picks on RotoBaller and see how to have success on Saturday's slate.
The very large majority of my DFS content will be EPL or UCL-related, however, there is more soccer than just what is being played in England. If you want to chop it up with myself and other RotoBaller writers about non-EPL leagues or other sports, consider becoming a premium member and joining our ever-growing community of DFS and fantasy sports enthusiasts! There was some great conversation over the four UCL slates we had this week, and the Premium Slack chat is as full as ever!
In this article, I will be providing you with my English Premier League daily fantasy soccer lineup picks for FanDuel on 4/17/21 for the slate that locks at 3:15 pm ET. EPL DFS Lineup Picks - Overview
Wolverhampton vs Sheffield
This is not an exciting matchup with many table implications. It will truly be the soccer junkies and DFS addicts paying attention to this one. Wolves (-145) are significant favorites at home against the league's worst team. Sheffield have tallied just 14 points this season and are coming in off four straight losses which is not even their longest losing streak of the season. Wolves won 2-0 in their first meeting of the season, and another similar result is to be expected here. The goal total over/under is 2.0.
FanDuel DFS Forwards / Midfielders
The team to target here should be pretty obvious. Wolves are the far better team here, and they face a Sheffield team that gives up 2.0 goals per game (2nd most) away from home. Wolves are without their top three attackers which leaves Daniel Podence ($15) as the top-priced guy. I do not condone paying that price for him. He is still getting his legs back under him after spending two months on the shelf with an injury, and he is averaging just 5.8 points per game in his return. He was not playing well before getting hurt either.
Willian Jose ($13) is a decent option with goal upside. His +150 anytime scoring odds are the best out of all the expected starters. He does not get many peripherals at all, so I would not recommend playing him in the captain spot unless you're feeling the risk.
Adama Traore ($12) is one of my favorite plays on the slate. He is showing his attacking ability recently with a goal last game and an assist before that. He is averaging 15.8 fantasy points per game over his last three games - which is not great - but shows a consistent floor in a game that could lack goals. Wolves will be relying on his speed and creativity as they are shorthanded. I love pairing him with Joao Moutinho ($8) who is underpriced on this slate and has four straight 13+ point games.
Nelson Semedo ($6) is the best value attacker on the slate.
Sheffield's goal-scoring record on the road this year is horrendous. They have just seven goals in 15 games. Wolves has a solid home defense, so I can't recommend any Sheffield attackers outside of Oliver Norwood ($8) or potentially Ben Osborn ($5) if you want a Wolves defender that badly.
FanDuel DFS Defenders
I like Rayan Ait-Nouri ($5) again here as a top value play. He has some attacking upside with a chance created here and there. But really, he's too good to be minimum price. He needs just a handful of defensive stats - with a likely clean sheet bonus - to score into the teens on Saturday.
Romain Saiss ($10) is another top play if you have the salary. A clean sheet bonus should be coming his way, and he is good at collecting clearances which Sheffield give up the fourth most of in the league. If you can't quite get up to him, I'll take Willy Boly ($8) as well.
If you have four Wolves attackers, Edna Stevens ($7) is the Sheffield defender to target with Ethan Ampadu ($9) not far behind him.
