Welcome back, RotoBallers! This is an odd weekend schedule-wise in the EPL. With a handful of FA Cup games taking place this weekend as well, some EPL games have been postponed. That leaves us with two single-game slates Saturday. The first of which will kick off very early Saturday morning. I will still be breaking down that game in full for you here. Keep reading this breakdown for my DFS soccer picks on RotoBaller and see how to have success on Saturday's slate.
The very large majority of my DFS content will be EPL or UCL-related, however, there is more soccer than just what is being played in England. If you want to chop it up with myself and other RotoBaller writers about non-EPL leagues or other sports, consider becoming a premium member and joining our ever-growing community of DFS and fantasy sports enthusiasts! There was some great conversation over the four UCL slates we had this week, and the Premium Slack chat is as full as ever!
In this article, I will be providing you with my English Premier League daily fantasy soccer lineup picks for FanDuel on 4/17/21 for the slate that locks at 7:30 am ET. EPL DFS Lineup Picks - Overview
Newcastle vs West Ham
West Ham (+105) jumped into 4th place last weekend with an impressive 3-2 win over Leicester. They're currently in control of their own destiny as they look to play in the Champions League for the first time in club history. They have a great opportunity to continue their win streak against a poor Newcastle side. They should control this game with relative ease. The goal total over/under is 2.5.
FanDuel DFS Forwards / Midfielders
You really cannot ignore Jesse Lingard ($15) right now. He has risen from the depths of Manchester United to relevancy as the white-hot goal scorer leading West Ham to a possible UCL berth. He has scored in four consecutive games scoring five goals in that span. That makes it eight total goals for WHU since the beginning of February. He has a good matchup to continue his stellar run against a bad Newcastle defense that allows 1.65 goals per game this year. That number is consistent with their home average of 1.67. West Ham are gunning for a UCL spot and will not be holding back. The scorching hot Lingard makes sense as a captain play with his game-high anytime scoring odds of +150.
I don't mind running Lingard back with a Newcastle attacker like Callum Wilson ($14) or Allan Saint-Maximin ($12). West Ham's defense has been decent this season, but it hasn't been good recently. They are allowing 2.0 goals per game in their last four games. Wilson matches Lingard with +150 anytime scoring odds, and ASM is coming off his second goal in four games. He gets better peripherals than Wilson which can be of use on this slate.
Jonjo Shelvey ($8) is the best value on the slate with his floor. He can collect almost any peripheral stat especially chances created.
Mark Noble ($5) is the final play worth mentioning if you're looking for some extra cash to pay up for a defender.
FanDuel DFS Defenders
Both West Ham and Newcastle give up all four important defensive statistics at nearly an identical rate, so there's no clear team to target here. Issa Diop ($5) is a good place to start if you loaded up on attackers and are looking for value at this position. He's pretty underpriced compared to how well he can get all different defensive stats. Four of his last five games have been double-digit games as well.
Federico Fernandez ($8) is the best defender on the slate at collecting defensive stats in general. He is averaging 23.65 fantasy points per game over his last four games.
Vladimir Coufal ($10) has been a huge part of why West Ham is out-performing expectations this season. His ability to attack up the flanks has been awesome, and it translates well to the fantasy game. He's the best pay-up option at DEF if you have the money.
