EPL DFS Lineup Picks - Overview
Southampton vs Aston Villa
It has been a tough season so far for both Southampton and Aston Villa as they sit in 14th and 15th, respectively. The home team - Southampton (+105) - is favored in this one but not by much. Southampton also happen to be coming into this game in better form with two wins in their last three league games. Villa - on the other hand - have lost four straight now. While the clubs they've played in that recent stretch are all solid, they have gotten outscored 12-5. Exposure from both of these teams in a balanced lineup is the way to go on this slate. The goal total over/under is 2.5.
FanDuel DFS Forwards / Midfielders
Aston Villa have definitely had the worse defense of the two especially lately. They have conceded an average of 3.0 goals per game in their losing streak that is now at four games. That is significantly higher than their season average which is 1.9 GA/game. That makes me want to get some Southampton exposure for this game, however, Southampton can't score. They have just nine goals in 10 league games. James Ward-Prowse ($14) is a great way to start your lineup on this slate. He has goal/assist upside, and he also gets strong peripheral stats. This is a good matchup for JWP at home against Villa who allow a goals, assists, shots on goal, and chances created all at a high rate.
Adam Armstrong ($10) is the second Southampton attacker to get a piece of on this slate. He has just one goal this year, but he has the highest xG + xA among expected starters at 0.51. He's been putting a decent number of shots on target and adds in some chances created as well. Just like JWP, this is a nice home matchup for him. He is +195 to score and an awesome captain pick in tournaments.
On the Aston Villa side, I would rather not rely on an Ollie Watkins ($15) goal at that price in a road matchup that is not easy. John McGinn ($12) is okay, but I'd rather save $1 and roster Leon Bailey ($11) who has more attacking upside. He has a goal and two assists this year, and now he's starting to get on the field as a starter. He is averaging nearly 14 fantasy points in his two starts which I'll take for $11 in a single-game with +300 goal upside.
Lock and load Armando Broja ($9) - maybe even in the captain spot - if he's fit. He has goals in two straight games, a good matchup, and +185 anytime scoring odds which leads the slate.
Nathan Redmond ($9) is another top value play. His ability to create chances gives him a very nice floor on this slate. He is +310 to score, but I'm much more comfortable using him in a flex spot and being okay with him just getting peripheral stats.
If you want money to pay up for a top defender, Ashley Young ($4) is a sweet value play for minimum price if he starts.
FanDuel DFS Defenders
Valentino Livramento ($9) has been a fabulous signing for Southampton. Fantasy-wise, he has shown up attacking upside and good defensive stats. I've already touched on the fact that Aston Villa allow a decent number of chances created. This is a good matchup for Livramento from an attacking upside standpoint and from a defensive peripherals standpoint.
Jan Bednarek ($8) is solid for $1 savings. He does not have much - if any - attacking upside, but he feasts on clearances. Luckily for him, Aston Villa allow the third most clearances in the league. With some other defensive stats, Bednarek will be a nice play on Friday.
Axel Tuanzebe ($4) looks like he might get back into the starting lineup on Friday with Ezri Konsa suspended. He's been pretty bad for fantasy this year, but at minimum price, he's viable if he helps you prioritize more attackers that you want.
Thanks for reading my EPL DFS lineup picks breakdown on RotoBaller and good luck!
