ANALYSIS: The Rays haven't had too many save situations crop up lately. They nearly did on Sunday, but plated two runs in the eighth inning to increase their lead to four. Emilio Pagan was the choice to get the final three outs, though, and that could be a harbinger of things to come. Tampa has been employing a committee approach all season, but with Diego Castillo injured and Jose Alvarado only just returning from a month-long absence to tend to a private family matter, Pagan could see the bulk of the save chances in the near future.
The 28-year-old has been excellent all year, posting immaculate ratios (1.14 ERA, 0.82 WHIP) while striking out a third of the batters he's faced. He has also already notched four saves. Three came in a single week back in April. The fourth? A week and a half ago, the last time the Rays were in a save situation.
