Sam Darnold (QB, CAR)
Age: 23
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank QB26
Updated Rank QB18
Heading into year four of his professional career and still only 23 years old, Sam Darnold received new (fantasy) life when he was recently traded to the Carolina Panthers. If Darnold remained with the Jets, he was most likely going to be in a camp battle with a high pedigree rookie QB. The Jets revealed their plans by trading Sam Darnold, who walks into a situation that is improved on paper. Darnold will now have the NFL’s best pass-catching RB, a better than average corps of WRs, and most importantly competent coaching.
Darnold is far from a lock to be the Panthers' starter after this season, but he is in control of his own fate. Sam Darnold goes from a “what the heck” QB3 in dynasty to a mid-range QB2.
Daniel Jones (QB, NYG)
Age: 23
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank QB22
Updated Rank QB17
Sharp dynasty players often look back on their rankings and evaluations from the prior year to analyze how a player has gained or lost value. This is especially helpful with young players. Last year at this time Daniel Jones was ranked in the top 12 dynasty superflex QBs. Jones flashed elite upside for fantasy. In real football, he showed to be turnover prone and have less than average pocket awareness. Jones’ willingness to take deep shots, move on from turnovers without conscience is a good thing for fantasy football.
Much went wrong for the Giants in 2020. Barkley’s season-ending injury, poor offensive line play, and lack of weapons in the passing game all contributed to Daniel Jones failing to hit his ADP value. Jones’ updated rank of QB17 is probably too low, as Jones has almost zero benching risk. As long as he shows average or better, he is locked into being the Giants QB for at least the next two seasons. Job security is enough to draft him as a mid-range QB2 in dynasty superflex startups.
Antonio Gibson (RB, WAS)
Age: 23
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank RB14
Updated Rank RB10
“Golden Son” alert. For those familiar with RosterWatch, know that we reserve “Golden Son” status for those rare precious players. RosterWatch was THE first to put the fantasy football community on high alert when we scouted Gibson at the 2020 Senior Bowl. Gibson finished as an RB1 on a per-game basis during his rookie season.
Despite some nagging injuries, backfield competition and lack of quality QB play, Antonio Gibson still looked like a dominant force and a dual-threat player. Gibson will be a popular pick at his current late second-round ADP. In single QB leagues, it is not only defensible, but a sharp strategy to consider AG in round one.
Fallers This week:
Austin Ekeler (RB10 to RB14)
James Robinson (RB14 to RB16)
Ben Roethlisberger (QB24 to QB28)
Jimmy Garoppolo (QB26 to QB30)
