Hey, RotoBallers! I want to introduce myself formally, my name is Jon Irvin. Some of you may know me from the Discord channels and know I love breaking down DFS slates, especially in the MLB and NHL. I enjoy the deep dumpster diving so to speak, and look forward to helping find the low-owned, overlooked, and unwanted plays. I predominantly play on DraftKings, so some of my picks are more tailored to their point/price system but a good spot is a good spot regardless of platform. We now have enough data to focus on positive and negative trends by implementing my trend chart where I look at both L25 and L10 to help see which teams are trending in which direction.
Happy New Year! Today's DFS content will be for the main slate for both DraftKings and FanDuel for Monday, January 8, 2024. We're starting the week off with a fun four-game slate, that on the surface may be fairly low-scoring, highlighted by the defensive battle as the Minnesota Wild host the Dallas Stars. Both Minnesota and Dallas have been stalwarts in limiting scoring and high-danger chances which may limit goals on both sides.

NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 1/8/24
As stated earlier, I have begun to implement my personal trend chart. Below, you'll see stats that reflect the average of L25 and L10. This happens to weigh L10 heavier, which tightens our sample and shows both positive and negative trends. Taking a look below, we are faced with a lot of green in the Against columns, we usually have at least one or two teams that are liabilities but not today. Tonight's slate also features an interstate rivalry with the Flyers hosting the Penguins in what should be a chippy affair.
DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks
Shot volume may be tough today on a slate where we see every team has held their opponents recently to under 30 SA/60 5v5. We don't have many options tonight, very few cheap ones at that as well so lets be quick and look for reliability at a value.
Thatcher Demko - DK $7.2K || FD $8.1K
Opponent - New York Rangers
Demko has been on a little bit of a slide compared to the beginning of the season but still finds himself near the top in goals saved above expected. Vancouver has been limiting both scoring and high danger chances which should help Thatcher face fewer difficult shots.
Others to consider: Carter Hart (DK $7.5K || FD $7.4K)
DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks
Pius Suter- DK $3.4K || FD $4.1K
Opponent - New York Rangers
With Vancouver finally putting their studs on the top line, the second line finally presents itself as a great value stack. The Rangers have been using their 4th line vs opponents' top line at home which should have Suter and the boys matching up with NYR1, a line that has given up over 4 GA/60 and still carries an xGA of 3.36 on home ice. Suter has been firing the puck, hitting the 5-SOG bonus on DK in two of his last three games.
Others to consider: Teddy Blueger (DK $3.3K || FD $5.0K )
DraftKings and FanDuel Wings - NHL DFS Picks
Jonathan Drouin - DK $3.7K || FD $5.2K
Anytime you can find a winger under 4K flanking Nathan MacKinnon, you take the value and ask little questions. Druin though has been on a tear since the Christmas break and may be at his hottest, recently scoring in each of the last three games including two goals vs the Stars. He should find himself in a decent matchup tonight as well as long as BOS1 continues to run Zacha and Geekie with Pasternak.
Opponent -Boston Bruins
Others to consider: Jamie Benn ( DK $3.9K || FD $5.1K)
DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks
Hampus Lindholm - DK $3.2K || FD $4.4K
Lindholm has been a reliable value that rarely gets shut out in the DFS point category. He may not light the lamp but seemingly finds himself with random shots and blocks along the way.
Opponent - Colorado Avalanche
Others to consider: Egor Zamula (DK $2.6K || FD $3.7K)
