DraftKings, FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks (8/22/23): Today's Top MLB DFS Lineups

Nolan Jones - fantasy baseball rankings draft sleepers waiver wire pickups

The top daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for FanDuel and DraftKings on August 22, 2023. Dawn Tepper's MLB DFS analysis and sleepers for building optimal DFS rosters.

Good morning, RotoBallers! Welcome to another exciting Tuesday, with a 12-game slate that locks at 7:05 pm. We have a lot of great bats and stacks tonight:  Washington, Atlanta, NY Mets, and St. Louis, among a few others. We also have some hitter-friendly parks in play, including Camden Yards and PNC Park.

I'm a tournament kind of gal, and with large slates, I like to target strong bats versus strong pitchers or pitchers with a low ERA but high xFIP (or both). We have two teams who have an over .200 ISO for the season: Seattle and Atlanta. Those two teams also have a 149 and 135 wRC+, respectively. The Mariners face Mike Clevinger on the South Side of Chicago tonight. Clevinger has a 3.26 ERA but a 5.37 xFIP. Seattle has a .211 ISO for the season and .258 ISO versus right-handed pitchers, which is elite. More on these two teams and more below. Let's dig in!

This article will provide my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 8/22/2023 and the slate locking at 7:05 pm ET. The lineup picks will range from some elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. You can also read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports here. Monitoring injury news and today's MLB starting lineups is also essential. Now that we got all that out of the way, it's onto the picks! DraftKings, FanDuel Pitchers - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Tanner Houck, BOS @ HOU ($7,600 DK, $7,600 FD)

You were expecting Zack Gallen? I expect Gallen to be chalky tonight, and since he faces a tough Texas Rangers team, I'll be fading him for this slate. Houck has been reinstated from the 15-day injured list and is an excellent value for tonight's slate. At first glance, he has a 5.05 ERA but a 3.82 xFIP. Versus right-handed pitchers, Houston has a .158 ISO, and over the last 30 days, they are slashing .237/.328/.399 versus righties. He should get you what you need at his price in order to grab some of the bats I'll be discussing below.

Josiah Gray, WAS @  NYY ($6,900 DK, $8,400 FD)

Another value pitcher for tonight, right-hander Gray, faces a Yankees team with a 28% strikeout rate, an 88 wRC+, and a .130 ISO. They have lost nine of their last 10 games, during which they slashed .211/.297/.333. Versus righties in the last ten games, they are batting .174/.270/.293. See where I'm going here? Gray is 4-4 on the road this year, with a 2.79 ERA. However, he has struggled a bit recently, with a 7.27 ERA over the last four weeks. This is a spot where the Yankees could overlook the 72nd pick of the 2018 draft, and Gray can get back into his grove against a team desperate for a win.

Also consider: Bobby Miller, Zac Gallen (cash), Bryan Woo

DraftKings, FanDuel Infielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Riley Adams - C, WAS vs. Carlos Rodon ($3,500 DK, $2,700 FD)

Adams is having a great season, slashing .316/.376/.561 for the season and .400/.478/.600 in his last five games. Against lefties, he is batting .400/.468/.691, and since the All-Star break, he is .410/.465/.667, with a home run and 10 RBI. Rodon has a 64.9% LOB, below the league average of 70-72%, and Riley is slashing .333/.455/.667 with runners in scoring position. I expect Washington to keep the Bombers' losing streak alive and Riley to be a vital part of the Nationals getting the win.

Matt Olson - 1B, ATL vs. Tylor Megill ($6,300 DK, $4,300 FD)

Lefty Olson and Atlanta are at home tonight, facing Megill and the Mets. Anytime Atlanta is facing a right-handed pitcher, I look to my lefties, and one of my favorites tonight is Matt Olson. In 11 games versus the Mets this year, Olson is slashing .286/.412/.595, with four home runs and nine RBI. He is batting .277/.384/.630 at home for the season, and versus righties, he is .273/.400/.616. Look for Olson to get back on track versus Megill and the Mets tonight in Atlanta, where the temperature is expected to be 94 degrees with winds slightly out to right field.

Adley Rutschman - C, BAL vs. Yusei Kikuchi ($5,400 DK, $3,000 FD)

Switch-hitting Rutschman is facing left-handed pitcher Kikuchi at Camden Yards tonight, where it'll be 76 degrees at the hitter-friendly park and where Rutschman is slashing .297/.408/.484 versus lefties. Kikuchi has a 24% K rate but is allowing .256/.312/.432 versus right-handed hitters this year. The Orioles have a .187 ISO for the season, which jumps to .215 versus left-handed pitchers. Bird is the Word for Rutschman and the Orioles tonight versus Kikuchi in Baltimore.

DraftKings, FanDuel Outfielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Lane Thomas - OF, WAS vs. Carlos Rodon ($5,200 DK, $3,400 FD)

Another Washington National versus Rodon in the Bronx? Your eyes are not deceiving you. This is an excellent matchup for Washington, and Lane Thomas will be another important bat for the Nat's versus Rodon and the Yankees. Right-handed batter Thomas is slashing .450/.500/.500 in his last five games, and versus lefties for the season, he is batting .349/.394/.599 with eight home runs and 26 RBI. Add another National to the list of favorites for today and look for Thomas to have a solid game versus Rodon in New York.

Jack Suwinski - OF, PIT vs. Adam Wainwright ($3,400 DK, $3,000 FD)

Lefty Suwinski has not been great in his last five games, but he can get back on track versus right-hander Wainwright at PNC Park tonight. Versus righties this year, Suwinski is .203/.341/.484 with 20 home runs and 45 RBI. Wainright has a 16% strikeout rate with an 8.42 ERA and 5.74 xFIP. It'll be a warm night in Pittsburgh, where temperatures will be in the upper 70s with winds slightly out to the right. Suwinski is best during night games, slashing .217/.345/.500. If not now, when for Suwinski? The time is tonight versus Wainright in Pittsburgh.

DJ Stewart - OF, NYM vs. Bryce Elder ($4,500 DK, $3,200 FD)

Stewart and the Mets are in Atlanta tonight, which is looking to be one of the highest-scoring games on tonight's slate. As stated above, it is expected to be 94 degrees at game time with winds slightly out to the right. Right-handed Elder has a 3.46 ERA this season but a 4.37 xFIP. Still not bad, but ticking upward. The Mets have a 116 wRC+ and .187 ISO for the season; versus righties, their ISO goes up to .208. Stewarts' last five games have him with a monster slash line of .333/.368/.1.000 with four home runs and seven RBI. Don't overthink it, Stewart's your guy versus Elder tonight in Atlanta.
