The Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter Week 7 off their bye week and with a favorable matchup against the dysfunctional Washington Redskins. This is a game the Bucs have a strong possibility of winning, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect much production from wide receivers Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson.
Let's start with Evans, who's been the victim of a nagging hamstring injury that's hampered his explosiveness all season. Evans has only caught six passes for a combined 73 yards over his last two games, and he's yet to record a touchdown this year. It's clear that he isn't 100 percent healthy by looking at his poor numbers.
Jackson has been too inconsistent so far, and it's difficult to gauge which Jackson fantasy owners will see on Sunday. Jackson has two double-digit fantasy performances this season, but he's averaged just 4.1 points per game in those other three games. He has 20 receptions through five games, but 10 of those came in Tampa Bay's blowout loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 4.
Quarterback Jameis Winston has struggled with turnovers this year, and the Bucs have decided to stick to the ground game to help the rookie limit those turnovers. Tampa Bay possesses the NFL's 9th-best rushing attack with an average of 122 yards per game on the ground, and it has exploded over its last two games. Tampa Bay is finding success with Doug Martin and Charles Sims on the ground, and the end result has led to minimal production from Evans and Jackson.
Another problem the Buccaneers' wideouts face in Week 7 is Washington's ability to control the time of possession. According to ESPN, the Redskins possess the ball for nearly 39 minutes per game at home, which tops the NFL by far. The Skins possess a versatile running game themselves, and their ability to keep the ball away from opponents will make it difficult for Tampa Bay's wide receivers to see much action.
The Buccaneers have a one-two punch with Martin and Sims in the backfield, and the Redskins do a wonderful job of keeping the football away from opponents. These two facets spell disaster for Tampa Bay's wide receivers, and fantasy players who own Jackson or Evans should look for other options this week.
