ANALYSIS: Diego Castillo emerged as a key cog in the Rays' bullpen after Tampa traded away Alex Colome last season. Over 56.2 innings of work, he posted a 3.18 ERA and 0.95 WHIP, with 64 strikeouts against just 18 walks. He performed especially well in the "opener" role, making 11 starts with even better numbers than his overall totals (2.65 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 21:2 K:BB in 17 innings).
Jose Alvarado remains the most talented pitcher in the Tampa relief corps, but may be used more frequently in high-leverage non-save situations as a result. Of the remaining pitchers in the Rays' bullpen, Castillo seems like the best bet to see some save opportunities. He also carries dual eligibility as either a starter or reliever, and that flexibility can prove valuable in plenty of formats. Owners already scrounging for saves on the waiver wire would do well to consider Castillo, who remains unowned in over 90 percent of Yahoo leagues right now.
