After ending the 2022 season with a 3-14 record, the Chicago Bears earned the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, almost everyone knew the team would trade away the top pick in exchange for a bounty of draft capital.

Did The Panthers Trade For The No. 1 Overall Pick In The 2023 NFL Draft?

Chicago had multiple suitors for the No. 1 overall pick. Many thought the Houston Texans or Indianapolis Colts would trade for the top selection. Instead, the Carolina Panthers sent the Bears a bounty of draft capital to have the top pick this year.

The Bears will receive the ninth and 61st overall picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, a 2024 first-round pick, a 2025 second-round pick, and star wide receiver DJ Moore for the No. 1 overall pick.

Reportedly, Moore was a priority for Chicago, as the Panthers offered their 2025 first-round pick in the deal instead of the star receiver. However, the Bears wanted to give Justin Fields a star No. 1 wide receiver this offseason.

Who Will The Panthers Select With The First Pick?

When the blockbuster trade happened, the betting market took a wild swing. Bryce Young was the favorite to go first overall before the trade at -160. However, his odds dropped to +350 following the news that Carolina acquired the No. 1 pick.

Meanwhile, C.J. Stroud had the second-best odds of being the top pick before that trade at +180. However, the former Ohio State star quarterback saw his odds skyrocket after the trade became public. Stroud is now the heavy favorite to be the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft at -425.

Given the massive swing in odds, Stroud will likely be the No. 1 overall pick this year. However, nothing is certain until it happens. The Panthers could fall in love with Anthony Richardson’s high upside and draft him. We only know one thing for sure. Carolina will take a quarterback with the first overall pick.
