ANALYSIS: With news breaking Friday that Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce will be sidelined for the team's Week 9 matchup with the Tampa Bay Bucs, Devin Singletary is suddenly a very enticing waiver wire target.
After leaving the Buffalo Bills and signing with the Texans during the offseason, Singletary started 2023 firmly behind Pierce on Houston's backfield depth chart. However, Singletary generated some fantasy buzz after he accumulated more snaps (31/21), and rushing yards (58/34) than the struggling Pierce in Week 6.

Singletary’s average of 4.8 yards per attempt in that week exceeded the 2.6 per attempt that was attained by Pierce. He also paced the backfield in routes (13), targets (two), during that matchup.
The former Buffalo Bill did not confiscate the majority of snaps and touches when the Texans returned from their bye in Week 8, although Singletary nearly matched Pierce’s totals in snaps (25/23) and rushing attempts (12/10) in Week 8. Singletary and Mike Boone also led the backfield in routes run (eight), while Singletary captured both of his targets when Houston traveled to Carolina.
With Pierce now officially ruled out, Singletary will handle the bulk of Houston's backfield workload with Boone serving in a complimentary role against the Bucs' tough run defense in Week 9. He is still available in 70% of all Yahoo leagues as of this writing and can function as an immediate fantasy starter for managers who need help this week.
