Miami Dolphins rookie wide receiver DeVante Parker received some good news this week when x-rays on his foot came back negative. Parker is now expected to resume running next week and may return to the football field in Week 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The first-round draft pick hasn’t seen the field too much this season and that likely won’t change once he gets healthy. He is currently the team’s No. 5 receiver behind Jarvis Landry, Rishard Matthews, Kenny Stills and Greg Jennings.
Parker has no value in redraft leagues, but should still be held onto in dynasty leagues.
The Houston Texans and Cecil Shorts received some good news this week as well. The former Jacksonville Jaguars receiver is expected to return to the football field following the team’s Week 9 bye. Shorts has always been a PPR stud and now that his hamstring is healed, he can be considered a WR3 in leagues that give points per reception.
Through the five games he has participated in this season, Shorts has hauled in 26 passes for 299 yards and a touchdown. He benefits from the fact that the Texans are frequently playing from behind. He will split time with Nate Washington as the team’s No. 2 receiver behind DeAndre Hopkins, but both will see the field plenty.
In other receiver news, Philadelphia Eagles’ Nelson Agholor has struggled thus far this season. The team was hoping Agholor would step in and be a stud right away as a rookie, but that hasn’t been the case.
Although Agholor hasn’t received a lot of targets through the five games he has played in, he realizes he needs to capitalize on the targets he does receive.
"No matter how many it is, I need to capitalize on every single one," Agholor said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Agholor will enter the team’s Week 9 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys with just eight receptions for 105 yards.
Agholor shouldn’t be considered a starting option in redraft leagues, but dynasty owners shouldn’t be alarmed. Most receivers do struggle as rookies and Agholor is still learning what it takes to succeed in the NFL. It also doesn’t help him that quarterback Sam Bradford has struggled as well.
Eventually Agholor should thrive in Chip Kelly’s offense, but it’s obviously going to take him some time. He has yet to separate himself from Riley Cooper, Josh Huff and Miles Austin on the Eagles’ depth chart.
