After an AFC Championship Game loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, the Baltimore Ravens felt like they needed to take a big swing at the running back position. Well, on Tuesday, they hit one to the moon when they landed free- agent running back Derrick Henry.
Baltimore signed Henry, one of the top running backs on the open market, to a two-year, $16 million deal. They upgraded their running back room in a big way. Henry now takes over as the clear RB1 in the Ravens’ backfield.

Derrick Henry to the Ravens: Fantasy Football Impact
When looking at surface-level stats, one might think Henry began to decline in 2023. At age 29, he tied a career-low 4.2 yards per carry. His advanced metrics, however, paint a very different picture.
Henry finished 12th in NFL Next Gen Stats Rush Yards Over Expectation (RYOE). Among backs with at least 50 carries, he finished ninth in Explosive Run Rate and fourth in Explosive Rush Yards, per Fantasy Points Data Suite.
Metrics aside, Henry also didn’t look all that different in 2023 when compared to previous years.

Henry turns 30 years old this upcoming season. That is uncomfortable territory for a running back. However, he didn’t really show any signs of slowing down.
The Ravens offense has been seen as an ideal landing spot for a running back this offseason. Gus Edwards scored 13 rushing touchdowns in this offense last year. It’s salivating to think what Henry might be able to accomplish here.
With plenty of gas still left in the tank, Henry remains an RB1 for fantasy football and should be selected near the top of drafts. Fantasy gamers should expect another quality season with double-digit rushing touchdowns in 2024. Paired with two-time league MVP Lamar Jackson, Henry could once again deliver a top-five finish at the running back position.
