The 2024 fantasy football season is still a few months away. Age matters for every position, but fantasy players are most concerned with it at the running back spot.
However, running backs can still put up significant fantasy points despite being older players. Three of the top-5 scoring running backs in half-point PPR scoring were at least 27 years old last season.
While Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs, and Alvin Kamara weren’t those three running backs, should fantasy players draft them in 2024? Let’s dive into it.

Derrick Henry 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Henry was the RB8 last year, averaging 13.7 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. He had 280 rushing attempts for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns, leading the NFL in attempts. The veteran running back joined the Baltimore Ravens this offseason, replacing Gus Edwards. Baltimore has been one of the top rushing offenses in the league the past few years, giving Henry significant fantasy upside in 2024.

Josh Jacobs 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Jacobs had a breakout season in 2022. Unfortunately, he regressed last year, ending the season as the RB27, averaging 12.5 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. The veteran had 233 rushing attempts for 805 yards and six touchdowns in 13 contests. While Jacobs missed four games and regressed in 2023, the Green Bay Packers signed him to a four-year contract this offseason. However, they also re-signed AJ Dillon and drafted MarShawn Lloyd.

Alvin Kamara 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Kamara was the RB14, averaging 15 half-point PPR fantasy points per game last season. He had 180 rushing attempts for 694 yards and five touchdowns in 13 contests. More importantly, Kamara’s role in the passing game could expand in 2024 after totaling 75 receptions on 86 targets for 466 receiving yards and a touchdown in 2023. The New Orleans Saints hired Klint Kubiak as their offensive coordinator after he spent last year with the San Francisco 49ers.

Who Should I Draft in Fantasy Football?
All three veteran running backs are solid draft picks this year. However, I would draft Henry first, Jacobs second, and Kamara third. Henry will play in a run-heavy offense. Meanwhile, Jacobs has significant competition for touches, while Kamara has to fight off Taysom Hill for goal-line rushing touchdowns.
