ANALYSIS: Despite earning the victory, Derek Holland didn't pitch particularly well on Friday against the Pirates. That, however, was the first time he had allowed more than three runs since May 30, or more than two since July 1. The veteran southpaw has had a quietly solid season, striking out a batter per inning and posting playable ratios (3.97 ERA, 1.28 WHIP).
Though he spent most of July shuffling between the Giants' rotation and bullpen, Holland should get regular turns down the stretch with Johnny Cueto undergoing Tommy John surgery and Jeff Samardzija's ongoing battles with shoulder issues. He's a quality streaming option in shallow formats and deserves consideration for a roster spot in standard mixers.
