BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 11% of Fleaflicker Leagues
ANALYSIS: After owners lost Dee Gordon for 80 games due to a PED suspension, no one expected his replacement to step in and be fantasy relevant. All Derek Dietrich has done since taking Gordon's playing time is make the Marlins think about getting him even more playing time once Gordon comes back.
Dietrich has bounced around three different teams in six years and does not have an overly positive career stat line. His .32 BB/K leaves much to be desired and his .241 BA and lack of any one dominant category has made Dietrich waiver wire fodder most years. Every season is a new season though, right?
Dietrich already has 15 RBI. He has cut down his K rate significantly and has taken more BB as well. The only time he has hit better than his current .291 clip was in a short minor league stint with the Marlins where he eclipsed the .300 BA mark. His wRC+ of 141 and his .910 OPS show that Dietrich is here to stay as a productive member of the Marlins lineup, and your lineup.
The big question is will he get the playing time once Gordon comes back? Quite frankly that option should at least be considered with Adeiny Hechavarria only hitting .233 on the season. However, Dietrich has never played SS, Prado has limited experience with the position, and Gordon has not played it since 2013. If Dietrich keeps hitting the Marlins will find a way to play him. In the meantime he is getting all of the starts while Gordon is out on suspension. With his eligibility at three positions, Dietrich should be a must own right now.
